Widescreen Display?

Recommended Posts

Download the retail client, open the game and change the settings to the newer resolution options. Then open the 1.12 client and decline to update your video settings.

By retail client, you mean my purchased WoW on the Blizz server? If so, I changed my resolution to 1920x1080 full screen (from windowed full screen). After closing it, I opened up WoW.exe that I extracted from the 1.12 client Rar and the message I get is "Hardware Change. Reload default settings?" with a yes or no option. I tried both choices and both times the 1.12 wow.exe displayed as a square. Afterward, If I open the 1.12 WoW.exe without making changes to the purchased WoW, the hardware change message doesn't pop up. I have noticed that my Nvidia control panel displays a message suggesting changing my resolution after I close the 1.12 wow.

* I just tried changing my resolution to the Nvidia suggested 1366x768 from 1080i 1920x1080. My TV (monitor) displays the change after it's made. When I open the 1.12 .exe I noticed that it displays 1024x768, but when I minimize it to my desktop, it shows 1366x768. Not sure if that will help.

Update* 6/17  Ok I'm not quite sure what happened, but I woke up this morning and I suddenly went from having 4 resolution options to 20. This was not the case after doing the step you told me, but now it seems to have worked. Thanks for the help!

Sorry to resurrect old threads but this was the latest version of this problem I could find someone talking and the only one with anyone from the team responding. I am also having this issue, specifically only having 4:3 options available, and have followed all the following steps:

1. Edited the config file.
2. Updated the drivers.
3. Custom resolutions with Nvidia control panel.
4. Enabled various DSR options, (1.2x through 4x)
5. Logged in to retail client, logged in to character, changed resolutions all over the place. Changed to windowed mode, back to full screen, windowed and maximized, down to 800x600 and back up to 3440x1400. Rebooted system, opened vanilla client, selected no to the default driver set.
* In all of these cases I have rebooted the machine.

I know there is nothing someone can magically do to solve this problem, I just seem to see answers to it all over the place and I am wondering if anyone knows of a fix I have not yet tried.

Thanks.

Edit: Oh right -> 2x Nvidia 980TI (currently not in SLI), Acer Predator x34 Monitor
Edit 2: On the off chance it had something to do with SLI, I changed that and redid the steps above. No luck. I switched the monitor to the onboard graphics and it shows correct options, so clearly an nvidia issue; unfortunately the onboard gfx can hardly play the game.

Edit 3: Mostly solved! I had an older monitor in the other room that I plugged into the onboard hdmi port, and with that monitor plugged in and that port active wow can see a 1080p res option. No luck getting it to work at the odd 3440x1440 resolution but beggars cant be choosers.
