kyrridas 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2017 First off, lemme just say that this isnt speculation based off of anything Ely staff have said or done. I'm just thinking out loud here. I've often thought about the idea of Elysium adding new, original content to vanilla WoW. like actually doing something with the never-used dungeon portal in Stormwind. or the one at Hyjal. or even something as simple as adding some questlines, character creation options, or holidays. Obviously, nothing like this is feasible, even if they wanted to do it, because the vanilla community would go ape-shit. So where does that leave us? I mean, sure, the team has their work cut out for them already and since announcing TBC servers, it's pretty clear that they wont be stopping the Legacy Server train any time soon. But what if blizz finally comes down on them with a CnD? or, years from now, they've created as much Legacy content as they want to and polished it all to a mirror shine? In the "we're done with legacy WoW" scenario, does the team just dissolve? I guess, to put another way, could this non-profit motley crew of "video game preservation" do-gooders actually form a studio and make something of their own? I know they're just working on the technical end of a game that already existed, but to get as far as they have, they clearly know what they're doing. Sure, maybe they'd need some artists and writers, etc... (and i, uhh...*cough* would be willing to volunteer) and financial backing, but it doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility that a new MMO would be do-able. So, what happens then? What would that mean to everyone out there? Do you think players would flock to a game "from the team that brought you legacy WoW"? or would we be looking at another Wildstar? Is the MMO market too 'dangerous' to enter, between the continuing success of retail WoW and FF XIV? Would you guys be interested in playing something new from them? or is Ely just the faceless supplier of your WoW fix? or what about additions to their current vanilla WoW servers? as long as it didnt break the balance or 'spirit' of vanilla WoW, would players like to see more? also, to any Ely staff perusing the forums, obviously i'm not asking for any hot news leaks, but is any of this something you would be interested in doing? Anyways, i've gone on long enough. Like i said before, i'm just thinking out loud. Don't take any of this seriously. but also, do. lemme know what you guys think.
cybaster 31 Report post Posted August 28, 2017 I think it is beyond the capabilities of this community at large. That is not a statement specific to Elysium, but a statement related to the vitriolic wants of this player-base and of the shifting loyalties and motivations of the people who organize and run these servers. Even a project like this one, recognized as successful by a large number of people, has at times barely held together. I can't imagine a WoW private server community having the stability and endurance to push an original content development cycle even if people wanted it. Which they generally don't.
