missing character maybe?

So back when nost and elysium were merging I tried to transfer my level 60 paladin but something happened with that and like many characters he was lost to the void. Skip to today I decided to start leveling a new paladin alt with the level 1 I created back then with the same name to keep the name from being taken when I still thought there was hope he would be transferred. When I went to log on the the level 1 paladin I notice there is now a number 1 after his name and it wont let me in without changing his name first. Then checked realmplayers and sure enough there is my level 60 sitting in anathema. So I'm wondering us there a way for me to recover him and if not and its just some kind of bug in the system can hes name be freed so I can use it again?

@earl grey when the zeth kur transfer took place a decent amount of lvl1 alts had there names removed to accommodate zeth players with the same name transferring over. Since your lvl 1 pally with that name was inactive for so long his name was given to a zeth kur player that had priority.

You losing your anathema 60 to the void and your lvl 1 name reserve being taken are unrelated unfortunately.

Hi, I have a similar issue when I came back.  I log in the game and  I found that my characters seems to was transfired to the realm Naxxramas PTR (I have the idea that this is for GMs and was only available once). I tried to enter there but I can't, so I looked for them in other realms, and i found them in Anathema and all the name of my characters but one also have a "1" after the name. (but the main screen of realm show that I don't have any character there). Nevertheless the realm screen already shows that my characters are in Naxxramas and not in Anathema. I entered in the game with the character that hasn't a 1 after the name, but the realm screen already says that my characters are in Naxxramas.  After the answer I see in the post before i supossed that I can't recover the names but where are they really now?

The  characters with a 1 by them are characters with names the same as  either the ones from the server they were moved from or ones that the moved names were judged to have abetter change. Just log onto the "1" names and a name change will be needed.
