Constant Lag Spikes

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am getting constant spikes in lags. The game will stop completely, just for a second then free up and then lag spike. The cursor just hops and disappears on the screen as I move it around. I just installed the game and made my first character. I have all graphics options set to max. V-sync turned on and then off resulted in the same lag spike stuttering. I disabled Full Screen Glow effect and that cleared up the issue for about 30 seconds then it went right back to stuttering once more. My character can hardly turn left of right without lagging out and then I have spun all the way around and pointing in some other direction I don't need to.

Thank you for your time.

Regards,

Angoscia

Broad question so this may take a while to narrow down and fix the issue, so I am going to throw some shots in the dark here to see if we can get you going.

Disclaimer: As always backup your system and anything important before messing with your system. Nobody is responsible but you for anything you break while trying to fix other issues.

Since the game is incredibly old I imagine your computer specs are fine. I also assume you have all updated drivers and patches for whatever gear and operating system you have. If the answer is no, or you don't know the answer to either question please try updating your drivers and operating system first.

If you are running a traditional hard drive and not an SSD try Windows Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter first. It's possible you are running low on hard drive space.

Are you running any form of anti-virus? Even if its Windows Defender? Sometimes there is a setting in certain AV products that constantly scans every single file as it loads. So it causes games to stutter. If you are running anti-virus or anti-malware try finding the setting and disableing it or even try adding the WoW.exe to the scan exclusions list.

Do you notice audio stutter as well when all this is happening? For example, you are playing music on spotify or something while gaming and everything stutters? If so, could also be a DPC latency issue. https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/solving-dpc-latency-issues/

There are also a bunch of youtube help videos for DPC latency.

Start with those and see what happens.

Thank you Zancon.

I am running on a standard WD 350GB HDD, there is over 120GB of free space and I run the drive optimizers about once every two weeks. I run Vipre AV and I have set to game mode (basically as less intrusive as I can get it without actually turning off the program)

My system;

MB- GA-78LMT-USB3

CPU- AMD FX 8210 Eight Core, 3.1GHz

Memory- Corsair 16GB DDR3

Windows 10 64Bit

Total HDD- 6TB

Total SSD- 250GB

Video- Nvidia GTX 1080 8GB DDR5

Sound- Sound Blaster Omni Surround 5.1

2 40" 4K monitors. (Although, I only use one of the monitors to actually play on.

I am in the business of computers and database Sys-Admin, so I keep my machine running as smoothly as I can. I probably baby it more than I do my own children... haha.

I get the stuttering and lagging on the login screen and character select screen. Audio stutter is fine, music is running accordingly. I was not running Pandora while I play...at least I don't think I was. Yep, I just tested it and I was not running Pandora or any kind of music. Just the music of the game. It's still lagging.

Wow, with that beast system and everything you already tried I am stumped.

Only thing I can think of now is a corrupt install or download of the game itself somehow but I imagine you have tried all that already as well.

Yeah, I tried reinstalling with a new downloaded version 1.12. ITs still lagging constantly; Fullscreen, and windowed. I appreciate your replies Zancon. I will just stick to the real deal for now. I'll check back sometime in the future. Best of luck to you.
