Stuck on "Retrieving Character "

Greetings,

After logging in and selecting my realm, "Retrieving Character List" just sits there and doesn't move forward in order for me to create a character.  The software does not appear to be hanging (it allows me to cancel out of it), it just sits there (for upwards of 10 minutes).   The only realm this doesn't effect is the PTR realm (which connects me to the realm immediately and allows me to start creating a character).

Try clearing your WDB folder first to see if its some kind of database loading error.

If that doesn't work you can also try clearing your WTF folder as well, but warning it will reset all of your addons to default/fresh install status.

Many thanks!   Clearing the WBD folder did the trick.  I was able to immediately get to a server and open the character creation screen.   Just in time for the battery to die but that I know how to fix.  🙂

I'm having the same problem. It hangs on Retrieving Character List for a few minutes, then I get disconnected from server. I've tried all the troubleshooting methods listed.

have you played here before? Double checked your realmlist.wtf file is correct? Should only be one line in it that says;

set realmlist logon.elysium-project.org

No I'm new, however I have confirmed and now re-confirmed that the realmlist is correct. I am able to create a character on the PTR (though after about 1 minute it disconnects me as well) but on any other normal server it hangs up on the RCL screen.

I'm having the same issue. Stuck on RCL screen, except for PTR. Already tried clearing WDB and WTF folders to no avail.

If you can get to the PTR and not to Nighthaven or Nethergarde the only thing I can think of is something on your computer is stopping it. The PTR doesn't have the same warden/anti-cheat protections the two live servers have. Double check all the software you are running for anything that could possibly be detected in any way. Macro or automation software, memory reading software, anything. Ensure nothing but WoW is running.
