How to swim underwater?

My character has a quest that requires going underwater, but no matter how many times I press "x" (which does nothing) my character won't go under the surface. I've also tried jumping in the water to see if coming back down she would go underwater. I have deleted the WDB folder and relaunched the game, but the x key still will not work to make her sink under the surface. Is this a bug? Is no one able to go underwater on the vanilla server? I can't find anything in keybindings pertaining to swimming to see if there is a different key I should be using.

You simply hold right click to point your character in the direction and hold "W".

You can also Left Click + Right Click at the same time and hold it down to run and as you move your mouse around you can change direction.

Thank you so much! That first one--and I think I have to actually mouse OVER my character and press the right click button PULL DOWN while going forward (w) for it to work, and it doesn't work right away--but it DOES work! It was the pulling down thing that confused me--simply clicking didn't work at first, but then pulling her down into the water with the right click engaged did.

Whew! I'm on a Mac, so maybe that behaves slightly differently, I don't know, but the left and right click at the same time just made the perspective spin around, and for a while she was running on top of the water instead of swimming (which was, in itself, pretty neat, but not what I was trying to accomplish, lol).

I also notice (now that I've gotten her below the surface) that in order to get back up to breathe, I can't just hold the spacebar--I have to press it repeatedly, but, as I said, that also works, albeit more slowly. I remembered having trouble figuring out how to get underwater back in 2005, too, but my roommate at the time was an expert so she was there to coach me!
