No characters on these servers will be deleted. Only thing being deleted are characters that have not been transferred from nost.

When asked about private servers, Blizzard once brought up the idea of "Pristine Servers"...which are literally the same thing as retail, but with LFD disabled. No, seriously, that's the only difference. Pristine servers have no LFD system. That's it. Blizzard seriously thinks that LFD is the only problem people have with retail WoW, and that vanilla players would gladly play retail if it didn't have LFD still makes me kek, how fucking deluded they seem to be

If Blizzard releases a true 100% vanilla 1.12 realm, I'd gladly play on it. I'd gladly pay $15/month to play on it. You know why? -Perfect scripting -No lag/disconnect/unstable server -No high latency due to server being in Europe -Lots of active GMs to respond to ingame tickets -No threat of being shut down -No bugged spells/abilities -No bugged mobs -No broken/nonfunctional quests -No having to deal with non-English speakers (no hate, I just don't like having to deal with people who can barely speak English, makes group content kinda tough) -Vanilla community in one place, instead of being scattered across 50+ private servers There are so many benefits. Now, before you cry "ZOMG BLIZZARD FANBOY!!!!!!" at me, I'm going to tell you that Blizzard is not being silent on this issue out of spite, they're not sitting in their evil lair laughing at us, they can't just flip a switch and instantly have vanilla servers online. They are not attacking private servers because they hate fun, they're attacking private servers because they are legally required to defend their intellectual property, or else they risk losing rights to it. Remember that they are a massive, multi-billion-dollar game dev, and they also have stockholders and parent companies to answer to. A decision as large as hosting an old version of their biggest and most popular game is not just something they can do overnight, especially after years and years of "We have no plans to release legacy servers at this time". And yeah, the vanilla community still kind of is a minority compared to retail. Retail still has at least 2-3 million active subs, while vanilla private servers are maybe 100-200k. At the moment, we're not really enough of a fanbase to really justify all the money/effort spent on official vanilla realms. But once retail starts dropping off and subs slip below 1mil, Blizzard will likely begin to seriously consider it. Even as it is right now, they seem to be moving away from WoW as their main cash cow. Hearthstone is making way more money, reportedly.

Why would Aux count as botting? Lots of addons do things automatically. You will not get banned for using auction house scanners or mail auto-openers / mass-mailers. Those are addons that have been in the game since retail vanilla and everyone uses them.

There are no bad healers. All healers have their niches that they perform well.

Yes, as Ret, it is POSSIBLE to "out-dps" people....but you have to get godly gear and stack shitloads of consumables, just to reach the dps level of someone with mediocre gear and few consumables. And even then, Ret's DPS is dependent on crit RNG and spamming mana potions so you can keep hitting consecrate. Have fun burning through 40+ mana potions every raid. It is possible to do "good" DPS as Ret, but it requires so, SO much more time/money/effort than other classes. That's why people advise against it. You're a much bigger help to your raid going holy and healing, than tryharding as Ret.

We're only stuck with "infinite private servers" because Blizzard adamantly refuses to host a vanilla server People have been asking about legacy realms since ~2009, and every single time, Blizzard refuses. Nostalrius is on some kind of fucked up drug if they think shutting down private servers will convince blizz to open a vanilla realm. You should not be supporting a group that gave us their core/character data, then 4 weeks later, demands them back and wants to keep pushing Blizzard for legacy even though Blizzard has been SILENT about the issue for like 8 months now.

Yep, I experienced this earlier. If you sit there for more than 5 minutes or so, it says "Session terminated" and kicks you back to the login screen.

I wouldn't say "totally different". Elysium said they're going to switch to a new core, but as of this moment with the servers being up, it appears that literally all they did was change the names of the realms. If they follow through, then it should be just a new server core and nothing else; all your characters still there.

Yeah, they've always been kinda supportive of Blizzard, but at the same time, they openly handed the core and character data over to Elysium. And now, less than a month later, they're turning right around and disowning themselves from the server, and trying to stop Elysium from using it. I'm 99% sure Blizzard has Nost by the balls. There's no other explanation.

pretty much, yeah, that's all you have to do. Take your "Nostalrius PvP" folder and rename it to "Anathema". Or for PvE, take your "Nostalrius PvE" server and rename it to "Darrowshire". should work perfectly.

well yeah, it's pretty obvious that Blizzard is doing something. There's literally nothing for Nostalrius to gain from doing this. They're only going to gain the eternal hatred of the vanilla community.

There was an admin message ingame ~30min before the server shut down, saying that they were doing a short maintenence to remove all of the un-transferred Nost characters. It's been almost 2 hours now. /shrug EDIT: progress servers are renamed, it seems

It's just speculation. Blizzard threatened legal action if Nost kept running their server, so they shut it down....but then they go and release the server core and character data so that someone else can keep running it, yeah of course Blizz is going to be pissed, so what Nost is doing right now is most likely just appeasing Blizz lawyers. I mean, come the fuck on. Look at what Nost said: "Nostalrius community is no longer about private servers, it is about official legacy realms." Seriously? This just fucking REEKS of Blizzard shenanigans. You don't just run a private server for 2-3 years and then turn around and say "we don't want anything to do with it anymore, we're all about official servers now!" no, that doesn't happen. And you'd have to be on all kinds of insane drugs to think that shutting down private servers will coerce Blizzard to release official legacy servers. Blizzard either has their hand up Nost's ass, or they're threatening more legal action, or both.
