    How to save Anathema

Thogrim, you need to understand the difference between lies and things that change. When Zeth closed, Anathema was still (and still is) a viable and enjoyable server. What you are complaining about is the result of players getting bored with the content, or just burned out, and that's always going to happen. Finally, there are not going to be transfers to Elysium, no matter how much you complain. You need to accept that, and stop dwelling on it, and figure out how to make the best of your situation. There is no room on the server, it already is over-populated, the core cannot handle that player base and that means caps and queue times, and you may say "I'd rather queue for an hour to get in than play on Anathema" but that doesn't justify forcing the existing population to endure queues so a small number of players from Anathema can change over. It's unlikely there will be transfers the other away from Elysium to Anathema unless there is solid that such transfers would be significant enough to warrant the work required to implement them, and that there would not be excessive negative effects for either server.
  2. It sounds like a PSU overdraw issue, which could be triggered by your video card.

    How to save Anathema

And while I don't blame you for this decision, it's exactly this as a cascading choice that is affecting the situation on Anathema. It's like a house of cards when you pull out a card or two in the bottom row. And the thing is, this has nothing to do with the project management, content, or anything else, despite the self justifications and recriminations doing the rounds. It's simply a fact of the life cycle of WoW - players burn out or get tired of the content, and the demands of raiding, and decide to take a break or make a change and play something else. Those players leave holes in their guilds and raid teams, players are poached, and other raids fail to form. This in turn causes dissatisfaction, frustration, and a feeling of futility. It becomes a vicious circle, where every additional player that leaves makes the situation worse for those that remain. Now this is natural, and it's a phase. Competition for gamer interest is high, and not just within the pserver communities but across gaming as a whole. How many people will take a break to play Destiny 2? how many were going to give Felmyst a try? How many have been kicking around taking a break to play other games for a while? You can't force players to play, and the fact that they are tired, or burnt out, or just want to take a break is not something that reflects on the game or the server management. It just is. A lot of focus gets put on Chinese players, but fact is they are a solid core that are dedicated and won't stop playing the way US and EU players might. They have to use VPNs just to play at all - a privilege they do not take lightly. They support the community and donate toward the upkeep of the servers just as much as the rest of the world so they have a right to play here and not be treated like second class citizens. So what can Elysium do, and what should they do? Well for a start, they shouldn't just change operations every time one group of players gets unhappy. What they should do is carefully consider the state of play on the server, and work to understand the reasons for changing demographics and population, and whether there is anything they can do that would really affect the situation positively, and whether that would just be an expensive short term gain. For instance, if we talk about allowing transfers one way from Elysium PvP to Anathema 1. How many players would take advantage of those transfers, and in what way, what levels, what goals 2. What would be the real net effect both a month from now, and towards the end of the year 3. How much work would need to be done to provide transfer ability (would it be done similar to Zeth'kur, as a manual process, wherein you cannot play your character until the transfer is complete and must be done by staff, or would they build a framework to provide transfer capability) 4. What are the possible complications both in the transfer, and in the impact the transfer has on both servers If you're only going to get 500 people transferring to Anthema, it's just a shot in the arm. If transfers are players who want to level and play on a less populated server, it's not going to provide immediate relief to BG queues or raiding at end-game. On the other hand, if half the raiding guilds evacuate Elysium PVP for Anathema, that might simply move the problem from one realm to the other. There needs to be a convincing case that making that change, and the form it should be made in, makes sense from multiple perspectives. Not just from the perspective of the end-game raider on Anathema who is experiencing something that is ultimately part of the life cycle of content in WoW. And as yet, no-one has made a convincing case for it.

    How to save Anathema

Killerduki when are you going to realise that you personally are more toxic to this project than a hundred Thari curt remarks? You are more rude, offensive, and obnoxious. And what is your justification for your hypocrisy? That you're not staff? That makes it okay, does it? No, sonny jim, it doesn't. If you want to apply a standard of behaviour to others, be damn sure it applies to yourself. Elysium staff are not paid to put up with your shit, in fact, they aren't paid at all and if you keep hounding and harassing and insulting, don't be so fucking surprised when you receive short shrift in return.

    Darrowshire 1.8 Temporarily Delayed

Shouldn't. It's just a delay to deployment until Staden gets back, after that everything should go back to normal.
  6. From a software perspective, there is nothing wrong with coding and hosting an emulator of any server software. This does, however, come with caveats. Most of these stem from the draconian provisions of the DMCA. The first concerns bypassing authentication and protection mechanisms intended to ensure only licensed users are able to use the software or services. It can be argued that emulating any kind of username/password scheme qualifies for this provision. Blizzard requires all players to have a valid subscription, and uses the authentication mechanisms present in the game to establish that the users are licensed and authorised to use the software and services. The DMCA language leaves this very open to interpretation. The second major concern is inducing infringement per the inducement rule (and the still pending Inducing Infringement of Copyright Act). For this to apply, the first party must directly cause third parties to violate copyright. While the standard is based on file sharing, it can most likely be applied here given that users MUST violate copyright simply to play the game. A lesser concern is the use of client data files in establishing the server - including the extraction of vmaps, mmaps, and dbc files. This would be a lot harder to prove since for the most part dbc files are simply tables of data and not usually considered protectable copy. The server itself does not use any of the textures, models, etc, from the client beyond the map data. Finally there is direct infringement of copyright and trademark by the commonplace display of Blizzard property marks such as "World of Warcraft"(tm). Edit: It should be noted that prosecuting any kind of suit is an expensive process involving discovery, depositions, subpoenas, and more. While it's easy to show that at least in some way private servers are violating copyright law, Blizzard-Activision are only going to step in when doing so meets the cost/reward threshold they require, OR where the infringement and not prosecuting it risks diluting their brand or mark, or weakens the protections of those marks. In general it's not worth their while to go after a small non-profit p-server when they don't know who is running it, or where the operators are beyond easy reach. Edit 2: It should also be noted that simply receiving a DMCA take down or C&D doesn't mean that the cited grounds can be proven to the satisfaction of the court, or that further legal action would be taken. Many legal documents such as EULA's contain unenforceable language and constraints that if challenged in court would be negated or disregarded. The threat of legal action is often used to discourage undesired activity even if that activity were factually legal.
  7. Firstly, as Firebrand said, authentication failures resulting in a temporary ban last for a rolling 60 minute-ish window. If you continue to try to log in, it will continue to roll the window. Wait an hour and ten minutes then try again. This applies to any account you try to log into - if you are banned on one account, you will be blocked on all accounts until the timeout expires. Secondly, get 2FA setup Thirdy, it is a violation of ToS to attempt to bribe or coerce Elysium staff. If you weren't banned before, you could very well be now.
  8. I think there is a misunderstanding here. Do you want her to play with you - in which case she would need her own computer and client anyway, and is permitted under ToS - or do you want to show her, in which case, why would you need to multibox? Depends on the group. Tonnes of players would be happy to cater to a younger player who is having fun in the game. Might even give her extra loot. If you're talking AQ20/40 that's a different thing, but for Deadmines and stuff, if she can follow basic directions, I doubt players are going to get too irate at her.
  9. I know a number of Ely players who started at very young ages in retail vanilla (think 6 and 8 years old) playing with their parents. Some even got to go into raids as buff bots. Kids are surprisingly competent at things they get interested in.

    Elysium....Together

    "Oh man!" - fixed...(you're welcome) - fixed...(you're welcome) ;)
  11. Steady on chaps. The game being playable is what we call part of "minimum standards" - it's not entitlement to expect to be able to play the game. That said, different players have different experiences and ideas about what that means. As an Aussie, I played all through retail on a 350-500ms connection, as a holy paladin main healer, and protection paladin tank BC+. That's my experience, and for a game to be "playable" for me, it just has to be less than 400ms. On the other hand, my wife raided top tier US from WotLK through to.. hmm, can't remember when she quit, I know it was somewhere after MoP and couldn't tolerate anything over 200ms-ish, which was hard to get and required a "lowerping" style VPN and custom connection profile at the ISP. I think we can all agree that when population on Elysium peaks at current caps, the game is not playable - while moment to moment latency is manageable, the intermitent spiking can push up to 2000ms - so no-one should be called entitled for complaining. However, as Thari said, better hardware costs more, and really, it's less a hardware issue than a 'core' issue. MangoS as a whole is simply not built to handle the kind of population we are pushing on it. So the answer is logically to cap, but that means queues, and unfortunately that's the trade you're making. As population on Ely continues to rise the problem will get worse and the only real way to handle that is to encourage players to roll elsewhere or to open transfers from Elysium to Anathema. Of course, the situation may self-stabilise.
  12. You could do with a dash of "nerd" - it's clear that thinking and communicating aren't your strong points. Go take some remedial language and culture classes. When you've done that - assuming you manage to scrape a "pass" - practice engaging your brain before typing this dribbling lexical diarrhoea.
  13. Very little logic, lots of rationalising. Par for the course.
  14. This is just moronic on so many levels.
  15. You got that the wrong way round. They can read the English messages fine, they just may not understand what you are saying. You, on the other hand, won't be able to see their messages without a suitable font installed unless they speak in pinyin.

Chain quest item deleted by accident

Raise an in-game ticket. A senior GM can review your quest progress and either reset it or give you the item directly.

    Can I be banned? :/

Dreemo, don't post your username publicly, and I really recommend not using your username as your forum name.

    Censorship gone autistic

I'm sure thoughts of Anathema don't even enter the consciousness of the players most of the time. Elysium has fielded it's share of bugs and bad patches - or did you forget the last round that just happened. Elysium owes Anathema nothing, you guys wanted to play at the forefront, and all that entails. You can't turn around and say to other servers "you owe us" for a decision you made.

    Censorship gone autistic

Agitating will get you a warning and then banned this time round. I would't recommend it, and it would be shit-tier behavior on your behalf.

    Censorship gone autistic

*cough* I'm sure that will go over well with the massive Elysium population and they will be all in favour of it.

    Censorship gone autistic

I was unaware of this statement previously, and while I don't agree with censorship, really you have to blame Indi for this - it's pretty clear the current staff are not going to tolerate another agenda driven hate-fest that attempts to drive a merger, the way Indi and co ran the last one.
  23. Stodola

    Censorship gone autistic

LSS: I said all that needed to be said in the previous thread. A merge is not a workable solution. If you keep agitating for a merge you're going to create an environment that is toxic to the players and make the situation worse. Your only viable solutions lie within getting players to play on Anathema and boosting the population that way. The greater context of private Vanilla WoW of today is vastly different to that of 2004+ and that's always going to make it harder to retain players at the top end. Content is being developed as quickly as possible while retaining a high level of quality. There is not much more than can be done. In fact, the burden for improving the situation on Anathema largely rests on the player's shoulders to create an engaging atmosphere that new players are going to enjoy. You need to foster your server.
