For those who do not understand the situation.

Recommended Posts

I read a lot of negative comments. And I came to the conclusion that many players do not understand, why admins moved Fresh Start.

Firstly, many people remember when there was a first start Nost, he had a lot of problems. Secondly, many other new servers after Nost during start have the same problem.

That's why after the stress test (if it succeeds) will open at first old PvP and old PvE. This is done in order to distribute the server load. If all goes well, then the Fresh Start will open ahead of schedule. And online there will be a more great (chaos, party with quest, solo grind) and without any errors, like during start Nost and other servers.

Also, most of the players tired, because before merge Nost/Ely they leveling to other servers, so these 2 months a great chance to have a rest and be prepared for the Fresh Start (Addons, plans and other garbage). And chance for new players keeping play without DC/lagging. Keep calm. You are not alone.

I think it has less to do with the timing, but more to do with the "greener pastures" mentality the community seems to have with the majority of the playerbase intending to move to the new PvP realm.  Players who feel that the old PvP realm will stand on its own are the very definition of NOSTalgic, and also in denial.

That being said, this is an unprecedented opportunity most people who previously invested time into a character never even considered:  having their effort brought back from the void.  I would venture a guess that the strawpoll everyone despises being referenced may reflect the concept that many people have already made peace with losing their old Nost characters, and were ready to move forward with a new project.

Nobody said it would stand on it's own. The playerbase is going to split between fresh and old server just like it always has. Just like when Nost released the fresh PvE realm, didn't make all the new people go to that server because it was fresh.

I don't think you guys actually realise how many players these servers are going to actually attract with all the exposure Nost has been getting the past few months...

They have publicly stated that it is their intention to have the PvE server be the last one to be released.

We already know the population is going to be massive, that much is a guarantee.  The playerbase will not split itself along the implied lines of old PvP/new PvP like you stated, history has already proven that across past projects and platforms.

The best course of action by the developers would be to use the old realms temporarily for the stress test, then only opening new servers(PvP and PvE respectively), this would keep the community together in the way they would naturally aggregate anyway.  The inverse of this would prove effective as well: only releasing the old PvP/PvE realms would keep the same level of unity, but you would naturally lose a subset of those players to other servers who only wanted to play if there was a fresh option available, either to another project or the private server scene entirely.

If the hardware limitations on the capacity of two realms would even be in question, you can look to the fact that Nost devs have stated some form of clustering is in the works to handle the load of the players in the future.

I have no doubt that they're delaying because they want to stress test it properly. However, they may be overlooking the fact that everyone will be playing in the Old realm since there won't be anything else to do, and whilst some people will be on their old characters, most will be on fresh characters, clogging up the starter zones and causing the same issues they are trying to prepare for. Unless, they want that to happen, so they can figure out what they need to do for the fresh start launch? There's a lot of possibilities.

If the project wasn't Nost I would agree with you. However I think what will be more likely to happen is simply the old pvp realm losing a few thousand players (which is a good thing) and the new realm over flooding. The PVE realm will always be ok because people who don't deal well with ganks or any pvp in general will go there.
