tannertothej 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2016 (edited) Whenever i go into my realm list file, which opens in note pad, i erase what is there, and replace it with Elysium's realm list, and then when i try to save it, it tells me "access is denied" and closes, and then i can no longer open the realm list, due to "corruption" The only way i was ever able to play on nostalrius is because when you downloaded their vanilla client, it had their person realm list set automatically Edited November 27, 2016 by tannertothej
Ellipsea 36 Report post Posted November 27, 2016 (edited) For some machines, it helps if your wow folder isn't in program files. On my computers I put WoW right on the desktop. Right click the WoW desktop icon and set properties to run as administrator. When you are altering the realm list make sure you change it as a "text document" and not some other kooky format. Undertanker 88 Report post Posted November 28, 2016 Pretty much what Ellipsea said, OR just click and drag the realmlist txt file to your desktop, open it, make your changes and save. And then click and drag it back to your WoW folder. UAC (User Account Controls) can commonly prevent this as it can detect the parent folder as read only and prevent you from saving these changes unless you drag the txt file out of the folder itself.
Jakira 22 Report post Posted November 28, 2016 Another easier method, is to right click your "realmlist" file and choose open with Notepad. You can then set the document to the proper logon server and then you can close the file and save it. It should associate the realmlist file to Notepad now and you can just open it normally from here on out if you ever wanted to change the server you play on. Jakira 22 Report post Posted November 30, 2016 When I do that, which I wrote in my first post, it doesn't let me change it... When I open it with notepad, and set it as the proper logon server, a popup appears: "access is denied" Are you logged in as an administrator? If you are, then right click the file, choose properties, and check the box that says run as administrator. Then try right clicking and open with Notepad. If you are not running an administrator account, then you will need to have access to either A) a realmlist file that is already set for you, and someone gracious enough to host it so you can download it and replace the file in your folder or Gain access to admin account.
