korzinski 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 Does anyone know, should it be normal that as a shaman, my swing timer doesn't reset after casting a spell? When I was playing my shaman on Nost, I found a 31/20/0 2h Elemental spec was rather fun to play, due to the fact that I could cast lightning bolts within melee range, and immediately after casting follow up with a melee attack, which I then followed up with another lightning bolt. I wasn't sure if this was a bug however, and I'm curious to know if someone can shine some knowledge in on this topic. Thank you.
gotmilk0112 10 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 Pretty sure it's a bug. Swing timer is supposed to be reset by casting, specifically to prevent situations like what you listed, where you get a really slow 2h and sneak in casts between weapon swings.

If your swing timer reached its time to swing but the animation hasn't happened yet, you can start a cast and if still in melee range after, the swing will happen. Which isn't a bug and is probably more in line with what you experienced.. Same mechanics were used with slam and solo grinding with pally back in 2005, this ensures that 0% of your swing timer is reset when you need to perform a cast. Easier to pull off with a slower weapon, IMO.
wow02 1 Report post Posted January 17, 2017 In my opinion there is no problem. Cuz autoattack have attack coldown not cast time. If i understand you? To auto attack and do a casting spell between the coldown of your swing is possible on all classes. I belive. Harder & easier depending on class. Ofc There is ways to increase your dps with timing a spellcast to your attack speed. Then some what Undertanker mentions, To start cast in your autoattack-animation and you will hit twice after spell. Common thing but peapole understand it different.

Ofc Blizzard intentionally designed spells to interrupt/reset your swing timer, to make it so that you can't just use a super slow weapon and sneak spellcasts in between melee swings. It'd be pretty OP for shaman to be able to throw lightning bolts in between every single melee swing.
wow02 1 Report post Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) Intresting.. Need to research this .. Because you dont reset anything. Just using the time waiting to cast something. Think of it in reverse, Do you need to be able to attack to start cast a spell? I shall get to the bottom of this!
