ValarMorghulis 2 Report post Posted December 16, 2016 There is really no need to spec resto for leveling unless you plan doing ONLY dungeons. Getting to 60 that way would take ages, though. You can heal most of the dungeons just fine in enh/ele specs which are faaaar superior for questing, obviously.
Outstanding 10 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 It will be slow, very slow. The advantage is that you are very hard to kill. You didn't specify if you were on the old PvP or PvE realms and that would make a difference. Ultimately what you do should not be influenced by other players but by what you want to do yourself. If you are in no rush, want to level up professions at the same time, want to respond to 'looking for healer' requests for instances then go right ahead. But it will be slow.
Royberg 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2017 I've leveled from 1-60 as a restoration shaman twice. It really isn't that bad. Your damage isn't incredible necessarily, but it's still better than being a protection warrior or restoration druid. If done correctly, your damage will be efficient and very steady and you will rarely need to drink. As mentioned above, you are also hard to kill. I had a separate squishier set of gear for strictly healing in dungeons, but for questing I typically took whatever Intellect gear I could find with some stamina, regardless of armor type, and wore a shield. DO WEAR A SHIELD! It will help with the damage reduction by a ton. You can tackle many quests alone that other classes might need a group to do. Flame Shock is very mana efficient, so no need to use Earth Shock or Frost Shock unless you need to interrupt something, prevent a foe from running away, or you really feel the need to burst an enemy down. If you get a few melee foes on you that are whacking away and making you feel some real pain, spam rank 1 of Healing Wave on yourself three times to get the three (3) stacks of the Healing Way talent. You can then very efficiently keep yourself alive by perhaps only needing to use your second highest rank of Healing Wave that you have to get yourself to full health. Having 5/5 Healing Focus will reduce the chance of spell cast pushback by 70%. You'll be able to defeat mighty foes well above your level this way or even elites. Think of this as practice for healing tanks in dungeons and raids. I'll just add that keep rank 1 of Earth Shock and Frost Shock somewhere on your bar; if your mana is low and you need to conserve it for healing, but still need to interrupt or stop something from running into mobs, it can save you. This is also good advice in general, whether you are doing PvE or PvP. Good luck to any aspiring shamans that read this!
