shibse 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2016 so as a frost mage, in pvp (mostly, but same goes for pve), what disadvantage would you get by using rank 1 nova instead of the max level? i mean the damage difference will be negligible, is there a difference in duration of disable? or difference in spell penetration? the advantage i can think of would be less mana u would need to use to cast?

ecouch 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2016 takes more dmg to break higher levels of frost nova. only use lvl 1 when you are low on mana.

Lower ranked frost novas do not 'take more damage' to break. Also, it is not damage based, it is chance based. Sometimes you can hit a critical hit without breaking the nova, and other times you can break it with a normal hit. Since different ranked frost novas use the same freeze effect, the chance of breaking the nova is the same regardless of the rank. This means, for highest mana efficiency, it is wisest to use rank 1 frost nova. Edited December 30, 2016 by Wankstein

What I was saying is that there was research done in vanilla to show that it had a lower chance of breaking using higher levels of the spell. I'll see if I can dig up the forum discussion from the old wow forums.

Most of private servers scripts are made based on reverse engineering and i really doubt that frost nova mechanics were made that deep. However if you think you're right and can gather required informations, make a bug report. and On 21.12.2016 at 2:05 AM, ccsolembum said: always rank 1
Fridolin 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) So always Rank 1 is the best ? :D Edited January 2, 2017 by Fridolin
drig 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2017 2 hours ago, Fridolin said: So always Rank 1 is the best ? :D maybe not always but most people can't be arsed to find addition keybind for another frost nova. It's safer to have rank 1 as it requires almost 0 mana and that helps alot when you are in some sticky situation. In terms of efficiency, it's better to use max rank as you want to pull out best possible dps on opponent.
