Account hacked

Recommended Posts

Hello,

my account was completly emptied (all my epics/blues have probably been sold and the gold has been sent away). All of it is gone.

I changed my password after hearing that the account database of a private server where I used to play has been hacked (a week or so ago). The accountnames and passwords where also different both private servers (but only slight iterations from each other).

I used to download addons from various sites and used a tool from this site (https://legacy-logs.com/Contribute/) to start the wow client and upload raid and character information to their database.

I already scanned my whole system drive with 3 different antivirus tools. No viruses where found.

I know the terms of service state that everyone is responseable for his account security and that nothing will be done by gms.

Before I end my journey on your servers i just wanted to ask you guys what the possible reason for my accountdata being leaked could have been.

Thanks in advance,

Unfortunately, due to the Terms of Use policy on hacked accounts and lost gear there is little the staff will be able to do for you. Just be thankful the person who gained access to your account didn't get you banned.

A. Account security

The account owner is responsible for the security of the account and that it's sufficiently protected. Note that Elysium staff does not recover hacked accounts

III. Character/Currency/Item restoration

Elysium staff will not recover any lost or deleted characters, regardless of circumstances.

Game items such as experience, gold or equipment that you have lost through accident, very rare failure of the server, or otherwise, cannot be restored. There are two exceptions to this:

Unique quest items or keys can be restored with sufficient evidence that the player had previously obtained them.

Raid items with the rarity of Epic and above can be restored in the case of a server crash/roll-back, providing an in-game ticket is sent to us which fulfills the conditions below

a. Exact date of the raid;

b. Video of complete encounter which also shows the raid ID, loot and complete list of raid members;

c. Name of the player who received or should have received the item.

Restoration of any item is always at the discretion of Elysium staff. Falsified information will lead to immediate account closure.

great all I get is copy & paste

It is what you agreed to when you created your account. All I did was copy and paste what you agreed to. Why should the staff restore your gear when it was your fault by using the same username and password for other things. As staff has stated before use a unique username / password for your Elysium Project account.

I can easily link you a quote from a senior gm stating they wont restore items if you want. Because, that is all you will get as a response to your post. I'm sorry you lost your gear and things were taken it sucks but just learn from the mistake use a harder password.

sorry microdots, nothing personal. Im just pretty frustrated. I knew that the accountdatabase of the other server has been hacked. i had a different accountname (they where not a even a reference to my characters). I even had different passwords (only slight alterations though). i cant explain how they got my accountdata. So i already quit my guild and said goodbyte to them.

another thing came to my mind: deleting my account and allowing me to reuse the token generated on the original nost server is also not a possibility?

No, it will not. Seeing as how the token generator is still broken anyways.

You gear is gone; as Microdots said, be grateful they didn't get you banned. Cut your losses, create a stronger password and move on.

How hackers work is they will gain access by trying out various names. Use of an account name matching one of your characters is STRONGLY DISCOURAGED.

Also, they use random password generators and basically brute force hack your account until they succeed. That's why using a completely random (and I made this password up) such as 8c_fhD9x1* is a very strong password. It does not include any common words from the english dictionaries hackers use.

When creating a new password, make sure it is AT LEAST 8 CHARACTERS LONG and includes a variety of the different types of characters above. If you have trouble remembering it, download a program such as KeePass. It (KeePass) will also randomly generate a password for you based upon your specified criterias.

In addition I recommending setting up 2-factor authentication that Elysium recently implemented, that works much in the same way as a Blizzard authenticator.
