Best talent spec for pve levelling warlock

Recommended Posts

Hello all, just started warlock for first time. Normally play warriors/Paladin/rogues on normal wow. Thought I would try something new. Need some advice on good levelling talent spec and any examples or links would be appreciated. Thanks!

Shadow mastery over Soul Link for leveling?

Soul link is -40% damage taken, for a pvp server especially Soul Link is by far the best talent for leveling up.

It is decent for PvP, but even if it gives you more survivability from being attacked by members of the opposite faction, you will reduce the speed at which you can kill stuff (including other players).

I started with 5/5 imp corruption 2/2 imp drain soul.  Now I'm going down the demo tree to soul link.

Soul link itself gives 3% dmg to both player and pet, plus unholy power 20% dmg for pet, succubus for dungeons gives extra 10% dmg in ALL schools or 15% shadow when sacced.  The only appealing things down the affl tree are siphon life, SM, nightfall, and you could go soul link and still get nightfall at lvl 56-57.  I think soul link is definitely worth it leveling on any of the pvp servers.  The only thing better would be both SM and DS, which means you've just hit 60, which means you can go a legit spec like SM/Ruin.

I'm a fan of working right to shadow mastery.  I pick up improved drain life because I find myself using that spell a lot to reduce downtime.  Here are my talents at 39: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#IA0i0RbkA

Then I start down Demonology for DS: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#IA0i0RbkAZfxhzT0o

This is just my personal preference and I don't claim that it's numerically superior to other builds.  I find that it really shines when I stack shadow damage gear and, of course, stamina.

I hands down disagree that that SM ruin is the best spec for levelling. The issues are your void walkers ability to tank and hold agro, sure shadow mastery, siphon life and improved drains are excellent, however if your void walker loses agro and mobs start hitting you, you just give your self more downtime.

I used to swear by SM/Ruin until i levelled as demo which was a huge revelation to me. the talent spec i propose is:

http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#IV0bZ0gh0xx (pick up imp life tap first)

Later you can flush out your build with:

http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#Iy0bhRbZbghzgxot

Please keep in mind this spec is designed for levelling.

Improved void walker is an exceptional talent, i am currently level 31 on Elysium and 1400 hp, my void walker shield is 1400 hp. Its taunts are excellent and once you pick up unholy power your pets damage becomes noticeably higher, which to some extent counter acts the damage you lose from not taking affliction talents. Combined with the fact that soul link is probably the strongest (and cheesiest) pvp spec (out side of a team environment) for running round and defending your self if needed.

In all honesty however i can only give you my experience from levelling on various private servers, i levelled 3 warlocks on nostalrius (and took one to rank 13 http://realmplayers.com/CharacterViewer.aspx?realm=Ana&player=Acrimony) i levelled a warlock on emerald dream (feenix) and took it to rank 10, also levelled warlocks on rebirth and all of the higher xp rate feenix servers. This works for me, you might not find it works for you however in my experience this has enabled me to level the fasted in comparison to sm/ruin.

I would recommend:

this: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#ItMb0o

into this: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#ItMb0oZbhh

into this: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#IEMbNR0oVZbhh (you can choose between curse of exhaustion/fel concentration

and end like this: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#IEMbNR0oVZbhAzoxo

The way this spec works is that you:

1. Send in VW towards #1 mob

2. Start dotting #2 mob with agony, corr + immolate then fear it (reapply dots as you need, wand down at 10-15%, keep it feared).

3. Start dotting the #1 mob

(only if you have Howl of Terror) 4. Start dotting the #3 mob and then Howl of Terror it

5. Wand the mobs down, make sure to have drain soul macro and put vw on passive to prevent him KSing your improved mana drain.

6. ????

7. Profit! You now killed 3 mobs and only used about 50% of your mana!

The improved VW is really necessary once in the 30s because it's around here you will start over-aggroing your VW. Also make sure you always have max-rank on its' taunt ability, don't use suffering because it takes too much mana. Your VW will oom from time to time hence the fel intellect talent.

Best of luck!

I dont really get why you have brought this up.

I would be curious to see a link to your realm players to see how you have itemised your character.

Leveling a lock atm, and i am planning this for my leveling spec and also to farm gear once i hit 60. not sure its gonna work with the 8 debuff slots, but for gearing up before raids i imagine it will do fine. After that i will go DS/Ruin.

leveling/gearing spec

For my part I will going for this spec for leveling :

First points :

http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#IGMZbhh same as this guide

Then going into affliction :

http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#IEMw0RbkVZbhh

And finally finish with destruction :

http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#IEMw0RbkVZbhhZxx0z (the 2 lasts points doesn't matter)

And then when I will be 60 I will respec for this :

http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#IEMbhRbkqZZgx0tM0z

I want to do PVP and PVE so I think this build will be good for both.
