Is using Graphic enhancement tools punishable?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,
So after digging around on the forum I heard rumors about people getting banned if they used the new WoD models in the game. Now while I realize why this is necessary since if memory serves Blizzard did ban model hacking back in the day cause players managed to find ways to increase the size of certain models that allowed them to gather herbs without having to move out of the major cities as an example, which is deplorable, i wanted a bit of a clarification on the matter as to what exactly is allowed and what isn't.
My main interest are external graphics enhancing mods like Enbs, ReShade and SweetFx. What is the official stand regarding those?

If they modify the client (like changing models does), or modifies the code in memory (which I guess some of the graphic enhancing mods does), then it is bannable.

I would'nt risk it myself.

What ReShade does for instance is it adds the newest d3d9 binaries to the game folder to enable the more modern graphical elements through injection and doesn't actually use the game engine for most of it's settings, adding the features in post since the old wow engine is dated and doesn't have the support needed to even handle multi-processing, feature which was introduced in wrath and then uncapped in cata.

It does not replace game files.

I Love ReShade use it for several other games technically it just hooks into the graphics API and while I doubt the security here is anywhere sophisticated enough to detect it (since I have been using ReShade on retail for a few years), I probably still wouldn't use it given how trigger happy banning is around here.
