Joggelito 2 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 (edited) Nostalrius' request is unreasonable and completely contradictory. (http://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=45489) The amount of mental gymnastics they perform is worth an olympic gold medal. They state that the original goal of Nostalrius was to pressure blizzard into introducing legacy servers. It is not possible to pressure a company by giving in to them, which is what they are suggesting we should do. We pressure blizzard into introducing legacy by showing the market demand, which we have done with the petition that got over 300k signatures. We have stated that we are willing to pay a subscription to play this game, yet blizzard has not introduced legacy servers. Blizzard has made it clear that they do not wish to have anything to do with legacy, even if it came with financial benefits. What Nostalrius is suggesting would only weaken legacy by giving up our leverage. I sincerely hope the Elysium team does not give in to the Nostalrius request. Cheers. JJemu 2 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 Complying with the request will help getting the official legacy servers in no way. Nostalrius already lost Blizzard's trust by releasing the source code.
Powershard 1 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 What is the most likely scenario, is that Nost admins that are waiting for lawsuits and whatnots from Blizzard, are given a deal and make that request to shut down all private servers to not be SUED and to make compensations on the verdicts so they get off easier. This said, knowing the community, of course Nostalrius does as asked by the Blizzard as they do know that the community knows better than to obey a request from long dead ghost which they are as they are in hell called Blizzard's lawsuits. At the same time profiting from the notice themselves and maybe getting into the heaven.

Pyrolize 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 From a legal standpoint, as far as I know, blizz has not opensourced any of their code, so its safe to say that Nostalrius has no Copyright over the code (AS FAR AS I KNOW, i am not entirely familiar with the facts). That beeing said, in theory, there's nothing Nostalrius can do except "ask nicely" as they have no legal claim over code that is not their intelectual propperty to begin with. Its like you steal a car, then u borrow the car to a buddy, and that buddy keeps. Now can you go to the cops report "your" stolen car as stolen? nop... WOW belongs to blizzard, as far as I know, they have not released any rights or ownership to anyone. So Nostalrius can't really do фекал to Elysium, from a legal point of view. Assuming these are the facts.
Bubrub 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 The Nost argument isn't just weak, it is incomprehensible. They don't make any connection between the goal of removing the "stigma" of a "pirate server" with the drastic action of deleting thousands of hard-earned characters. This will take the legacy fan community 10 steps backwards. Many will swear off any server touched by nost AND/OR elysium if they see their 60s deleted for such flimsy reasons. Don't do it. Deleting characters will not strengthen the legacy community. It will DEFINITELY not unify it. Don't do it.
zubdub7 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 I agree with Bubrub. Their argument doesn't make sense at all. How many times do we as a community have to fall for Blizzard's false promises and feigned interest?
noktyn 2 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 Sure Elysium retards, thanks for the callous disregard for people's fucking time. Go back to Blizzard's tit and get a reality check. They would never litigate this as it would be far too costly to be worth your time.
Tinkler 2 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 Elysium obviously won't comply with such a stupid request. "Please give my stolen cocaine back so the police will like me." Huh? That's some serious coke logic right there.
Joggelito 2 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 We got a response from the Elysium team. I do believe it's very reasonable what they're doing. My biggest fear was that the core would be given up for something inferior. Those concerns have been mitigated but I am still a bit worried. It is a shame that we have lost Nostalrius but elysium will continue without them. I wish the Elysium team all the luck in the world with this. Cheers.
