Well, alright - I'll go ahead and remove the addon. I hope you'll consider submitting your addon to the site yourself eventually. I'd just like to let you know that we have now added the ability to link directly to your GItHub for users who prefer to download the latest version that way - see here for an example.

For uploading old addons it would be nice if there were a way to specify the author independently of the uploader which would be additionally (or exclusively) shown where the "by xxx" is now.

I agree and that's something I'm looking to implement soon. I want the authors to get the credit they deserve.

I think the addons that are developed/maintained on GitHub you should just include the link to the GitHub and not an additional download link from your database.  Some people that don't understand the difference will be downloading old/buggy versions instead of the latest by the developer off GitHub just because it says "Download This Addon" compared to "Download from GitHub" which some may not understand what GitHub is.

I like the site and think it's great having an updated database with a nice format of descriptions and pictures but double-hosting old files seems a little silly and just adds more work to keep an updated version on your database as well - why not make it easier for yourself?

For the time being until authors are interested in updating their own addons, I'll be updating addons once a week to keep them up to date with their GitHub versions. I don't yet have a way to completely disable the download and allow just the GitHub link, but I'll try and get that added soon as well.

Hello everyone,

As an update to my previous message, we have just added a new group for confirmed addon developers that allows them to link directly to the zip download of their addon on GitHub:

You can see an example of this in action here.

If you are an addon creator and would like your account confirmed on the site, please send me a PM here or a PM on the site at Arbaxas. Thanks!

I agree that this git repository thingy might not be the best idea of all time. At least not the way you are doing it now. First of, you could use https. Secondly, some addons have a build process involved, which makes a repo download useless from a user perspective (e.g. ShaguQuest) or have files that are not needed for the addon (e.g. Questie). Unless you want to micromanage every addon for which files to get from Github I'd suggest you stick to the Github release pages whenever the authors use them.
