T2.5/early T3 and the damage meter chart

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I haven't played Vanilla since... well... probably 9 years or so. I just wanted to ask you a quick question regarding DPS and classes.

Assuming a single target encounter with T2.5/early Naxx gear and no penalty for melee or ranged classes, am I right when i'm ranking classes like this (Alliance, so no WF totem or so).

The raid includes a Shadow Priest and someone with Nightfall

1. Mage with the ignite tick rolling

2. Warlocks

3. Rogues

4. Warriors (if I'm not mistaken with this lvl of gear, warrior are not topping the DPS meter yet)

5. Other mages

6. Hunter.

I got 2 questions more precisely: When exactly do Locks start to take over Mages (not including the one with the ignite tick) ? I mean with what gear do they start to dps more than mage ?
I'm not 100% sure that they ACTUALLY dps more than mages on single target encounters, I'm just trying to remember how it was back then.

Hunters. From what I know hunters are one of the hardest classes to master in PVE. Back then there was little information available to people. Now that pretty much everyone is theorycrafting and optimizing his/her rotations/gears, can hunters actually dps more than mages/locks on single target encounters ?

3. Am I correct assuming that T2.5/early T3 rogues dps less than Mages  with the same gear ?

Thanks !

Cant rank like that. Are you assuming full buffs ? Melee > Casters, likely Warriors > Rogues. No world buffs but casters flasking ? Likely Casters > Melee and Rogues > Warriors. Short fight ? Long fight ? Movement ? Adds ?

Averaging everything though, and assuming competent guild, warriors are kings, mages fight with rogues, warlocks lag a bit behind unless played by top 0.01%.

For Naxx:

Tier 1 is Warlocks/Fury Warriors.

Tier 2 is Rogues, Mages.

Tier 3 is Hunters, Shadow Priests, Hybrids.

Locks and mages are fairly even thru AQ, but locks get way better itemization in Naxx.

Hunters fall off very hard after BWL, and never recover.

Rogue vs. mage dps largely depends on the fight.

Setup provided you with the most accurate answer OP.   Though you are correct to rank the mage with whom ever started the ignite as a high dps, but as you know that is skewed as it is a group of mages doing that.   And this would be rated on a pure tank and spank fight.   Ofc mechanics prevent classes from having 100% on a majority of the fights, so a per boss basis, certain classes will excel.
