MartyMcFly 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2017 First of all, I remember that in the very beginning of WoW, playing it under Wine got your account banned because it somehow didn't go well with the anti-cheat filter. Is this allowed with this version of WoW? Second, in case it isn't a problem, anyone has experience with playing it on Linux?
khalismur 6 Report post Posted February 19, 2017 Errr wine will never EVER be the cause of a ban! I've played under Linux with wine in retail and quite a few private servers, without any issue whatsoever.
MartyMcFly 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2017 Ok, awesome. I'll download it to my other PC then.
Aveton 8 Report post Posted February 19, 2017 I play here on Linux since launch of Nostalrius PvP, december 17. Never got banned or any problems. All work perfectly.
Greased Keen 1 Report post Posted February 21, 2017 I am also playing under Linux, has since launch.
tehfred 2 Report post Posted February 22, 2017 My problem playing on Linux has always been that I dropped the money on a 2014 Naga. Since the button control switch is software-based instead of hardware-based, and Synapse won't run in Wine, I have to remap the side buttons with xinput. The default is 1 through =, when on Windows I have them remapped to the numpad. The 1.12 client runs great with zero issue.

Aveton 8 Report post Posted February 22, 2017 34 minutes ago, Faid said: What versions of Linux have y'all gotten 1.12 to run with? The kernel version is not important. I use wine-1.9.23 on Gentoo.
Faid 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2017 Gentoo huh? Any Ubuntu or Linux Mint users try it?
khalismur 6 Report post Posted February 22, 2017 Well he asked for "Linux version", not for distribution or wine version. I use wine 2.1-1 under Manjaro.
qbradq 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2017 I tried to run with Linux Mint 17.1 with Play On Linux's vanilla WoW profile. Frame rate was awful and sound was delayed by about 1 second. I also attempted to run under a VirtualBox VM using Windows 7 as the guest OS. I could get 3D Mark 2016 to run but WoW refused to start with "failed to start 3D acceleration" error. I don't know what I was doing wrong if everyone else had good results :(
khalismur 6 Report post Posted February 22, 2017 google -> 'arch wiki wow' many good and practical info there regarding optimizations. should apply to most distros.

smilingbob 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2017 (edited) I've got several computers playing on Darrowshire in Linux Mint 17.3, Wine 1.6.2 (latest version d/l from Software Manager), and both Intel integrated graphics and AMD graphics with the FGLRX (3.x Kernel). Note: upgrading to a 4.x kernel will break the proprietary AMD linux drivers, thus I stuck with 17.3 since 18.x no worky. Game play and frame rate are terrific and we run the game in DX9. Yes, OpenGL is a little better but there is no hardware cursor, which totally sucks ass. My lowest powered rig is a 11.6" Asus laptop with Celeron 1.5GHz x2 CPU and 2GB DDR3 with Intel Ivy Bridge graphics with shared memory. Gets 40's FPS out in the world and in dungeons, teens in big cities (think Iron Forge on busy day), maxed out graphics except view distance. Way better than my gaming rig back in 2006. dequecojonesvais 2 Report post Posted February 23, 2017 tweaking some graphics options as to reduce viewing distance and some more stuff have a good fps rate. Test in openSUSE 42.2 with Wine 2.1.1 - staging with 0 issues.
Serentice 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2017 WoW runs perfectly up until Patch 7.1 on Linux. Apparently some mongo at blizzard wanted to reprogram the entire OpenGL backend for 7.1 and broke a lot of stuff. They should just change to Vulkan. Anyway the version we have on Elysium runs perfectly on most versions of wine.
