Each raid usually has at least 2 or 3 hunters, to provide Trueshot Aura for the melee groups, as well as other utility like traps or kiting. Hunters aren't bad DPS, they're just not as good as warrior/rogue/mage/warlock. Certainly above the level of ret/enh/feral.
