Server attack serious recently, and the most frequent DDOS attack types, as a work in the network security personnel for many years, as a member of the love the community at the same time, the recommendations are as follows:

Add 1, for the community server hardware firewall, recruit professional safety engineer is responsible for maintaining volunteers firewall policy.

2, the server blocking all known IP blacklist connection

3, restrict single IP number of simultaneous connections and set the flow threshold, beyond the part of the boot server to the black hole or flow cleaning equipment.

I believe they are already using this? Aswell as Cloudflare reverse-proxy for some sort of load-balancing? But I guess all suggestions are probably welcome if it can help.

How do i play with my roommate then? Bad idea.

A reasonable number of simultaneous connections limit does not affect you and your roommate's game together, there will be reasonable restrictions on the number of arguments to decide.

In the UO community most servers limit the number of connections from a single IP, mainly to prevent or limit multiboxing. The roommate scenario is typically handled via a manual exception that is applied for via form post or online form. It seems to work well in that community, even on servers with 5k concurrent players.
