Incentivize people to join Darrowshire (and Horde)

Recommended Posts

We on the horde side of Darrowshire are very unhappy with the current state of the server - lower pop than Elysium and Anathema, and outnumbered compared to the Alliance.

Some of us have spit-balled ideas about how to get people to come here: Advertise boosts to lvling and gearing up, gold to new players, free consumables etc. (from ourselves). After discussion we realised this couldn't be sustainable without offering the same incentives to all new players indefinitely. We also realised that as long as there is an influx of players then they will solve the problems of gearing up on their own since they would be doing that with each other and would boost the economy for everyone. So how do we bring in new players to Darrowshire?

The problem with bringing new people to the server is that we are semi-mature in progression compared to Elysium and that we are PvE. We feel that the PvE aspect is actually a great attribute once you've played here, so we just need people to play here to find this out. When it comes to progression we aren't worried too much about being ahead since the nature of Vanilla requires people to progress as a guild regardless of the patch of the server. The low population itself puts people off joining.

So the real problem is being able to constantly bring in new players to our server. So how do we bring more people to join Darrowshire (and preferably Horde)? These bonuses should only be applied to Horde:

  • Experience boost (50-X% bonus of xp received from mob kills, or an overall xp rate boost)
  • Free Normal Mount skill

These bonuses are obviously the same as Warmane is offering to Alliance on their TBC server but has been proven to bring people to not only the server but also to play Alliance and help balance the factions.

If others have any ideas about incentives that could bring in people to Darrowshire, we'd love to hear them.

Edit: These are just suggestions, it's to start a dialogue to bring more ideas.

Edit 2: Elysium will never give xp boosts and that's fair enough.

The low population on Darrowshire is a problem and seems to get getting worse by the week. There is a significant faction imbalance and its becoming harder to find groups for dungeons. The next major content patch is planned for the end of October, and I worry that there is little or nothing to encourage people to start here or stay active until then.

If I was new to the vanilla wow scene I wouldn't see Darrowshire as an appealing server to start a fresh on.

Does the Dev team have a plan to address these issues ? And what can we do to help ?

Stopped reading there. No.

Maybe you should have read further? Those were ideas that we played with.

He really stopped reading there. Turkish president Erdogan listened to a german comedian who texted "Erdogan fucks goats" and did not wait until that comedian explained that this is an example for something that you are not allowed to say in public. People started wars because they stopped reading before finished.

So I try to leave offtopic. First idea to restore Darrowshire population: Provide a walk of shame for Toradh. Would maybe bring some players back?

Anyway. A former 60 server called rebirth tried xp-weekends to promote their "1x rate" server and that did not work out. I am glad you crossed out that idea.

Rebirth also tried another silly event. They allowed people to create a lvl 35 char for free. They did that when scriptcraft 2 collapsed... Oh I was so pissed and even years after that, people (who played long before the event on rebirth) used their lvl 35 chars (the system was of course abused, people created new accounts just for their free lvl 35 char) for whatever purpose. Long story short: Events that provide free ressources (gold, xp, mounts) will always lead to problems and will be abused by everyone as much as possible. Therefore it is almost impossible to use free ressources as impulse to increase population without creating additional problems that potentially piss off the loyal player base.

I also want to remind you that most happy horde players are not active in the forum, even though they are the ones affected most.

If that was my project, I would change Darrowshire from PvE to RP-PvE and promote the server on reddit/youtube/etc as "first RP vanilla server". I play retail at the moment on a RP realm and even after all the years - roleplay and lore is what WoW is still strong at and vanilla has a very intense and deep atmosphere and lore and I think there are many roleplayers that would love to immerse into Darrowshire RP-PvE ;)

I'd personally love RP server. Vanilla is very RP oriented (no easy ways to do stuff: ingredients, consumables, no graveyards, no flight masters, high difficulty level - these make everything easier to roleplay) + Darrowshire's PVE style fits RP.

There is a problem though: there are few thousands players on the realm. I bet less than a half would want to RP.
