Is this a good use of rogue talents (am I really a rogue)?

Recommended Posts

I'm a combat rogue in my mid 20s, and feel I am a fairly capable DPSer.  I know this is a funny comment, but I wonder if I am really a rogue.  I use stealth strategically for positioning or eluding NPCs, but not often to initiate fights.  I have a very slow sword (MH) and a very fast dagger (OH), and as a result never use backstab.  I tried swapping them, using gouge during the fight, running behind for backstab, but the whole effort seemed awkward, and I often hadn't planned my energy correctly.  I thought I might make a practice of swapping weapons during instances where I could more reliably be behind the mob, but I'm not sure I'd being doing that for more DPS gain or just because I feel it's what rogues are 'suppose' to do.  Is it OK to call yourself a rogue and simply run in slashing with SS and Evis?

You are a Combat rogue, same as me, and you basically only use stealth to open with Garrote or Cheap Shot, otherwise you can go straight and unstealthed and you'll do great.

BUT is that a rogue? Well I suggest you try this: once you've acquired a decent and slow dagger for your MH, reset your talents to full Subteltly and experience fast stealth movement and killing mobs just with Ambush and a 4 point Eviscerante, it's nice too. Combat can be boring since it's all the time the same, but it's really the best for soloing and leveling.

Also once you learn Kidney shot, you'll be able to backstab the mobs again without the need of Gouge. Think of this rotation for mobs: Ambush, let energy replenish while just autoattacking, Kidney Shot + Backstab and the mob should be dead. Very few mobs your level resist an Ambush + Backstab, even if the Ambush doesn't crit (and it will only crit aprox. half of the times at low levels until you stack up stats).

In instances it's far easier since you're behind the mob most of the times. So I'd suggest go give Subtetly a try ;)
