RP scene post-Nostalrius

Recommended Posts

I wonder if upcoming mergers and whatnot will affect RP on the server. Hopes and fears? Nostalrius did have some semblance of roleplaying groups so maybe some of that will carry over.

Hopefully it will be a positive and healthy contribution to the server! I haven't played on Elysium for long and so far I find that roleplayers are hard to come by. We did have a nice RP community on Nostalrius, at least on the Alliance side and I do hope some of those people will find their way to the new server.

My biggest hope is that we can establish communication between different groups who'd be interested in roleplay and collectivity create some fun and epic storylines in between all the questing and raiding. Personally I'd be ready to put some effort into it as the sole reason I play WoW to this day is because of the RP - which unfortunately is lacking in the private vanilla scene.

My fear is that nobody will give a damn, the merge will mean nothing and a community will never get to thrive properly because the demand and interest is low or non existing.

We are out there! Old school day 1 WoW player looking forward to getting back into the game (Left about a month into BC. Tried to pick it back up in Wrath, but the game felt soulless at that point). Never played here, or on Nost. Caught wind of it all through the merge announcements.

Very into RP. I'm not much of a writer, so it's limited to mostly in-game. Most likely joining PvE server, but if a fresh start PvE is announced I will be starting there, probably horde. Not expecting many RP players, but one thing I noticed in the past is: if people see you ingame roleplaying, some will be drawn to join in. It can spread like a disease, so don't be afraid to let that character shine out there!

Oatgrain - good to meet a fellow day one player (I stopped around Cataclysm, played on a European RP server since 1.10) and great that you're joining us. I'd be happy to roll a Horde character on a PVE server with you, even though I've always been a bigger fan of the Alliance. I don't have high expectations myself but still cross my fingers that a tight knitted community will develop within the next few months.

Funny you should mention the spread like a disease effect as that actually occurred on Nost a few times when I was playing there. One of the best moments I had was when me and my guild were doing some quest RP and managed to attract a few people, who decided to follow us around for quite some time, not taking part, but just enjoying the show so to say. Eventually they saw how much fun we had and decided to join in, which I think was really awesome because they didn't really have any RP experience prior to that.

If you're planning to RP, then I can confirm the MyRoleplay addon v2.2.2 worked fine on Elysium and probably will too on the new servers.

Awesome story, that's good to hear! No pressure to roll horde, I actually am going to leave it up to my wife to decide what we're rolling with. It's entirely possible we'll end up playing both sides a little. I noticed alliance side also has much better venues for RP (bars, better fleshed out buildings, bigger cities, etc), so I'm happy either way. I'll keep an eye out for you in the forum RP section and hit you up when things start rolling. Same deal if the forums end up migrating.

I am very into RP, and hope to be bringing a few more Roleplayers to the server I roll on. Right now I'm really interested in rolling on the fresh realms, as a fresh start seems most appealing to me at this time, I really would enjoy a nice RP community or at the very least a small group of RPers who meet up occasionally. I'd love cross-faction events as well, but communication will be critical since (at least right now) I feel like we are few and far between!

Maybe some kind of Discord could be set up to keep all the RPers in one place? That way organizing events and general outreach between people would be a lot easier!

Aww that sounds great, I wish I had a better half who could make decisions for me like that ^^. Maybe she'll join in for the RP? Anyhow, let's definitely keep in touch, if you are on discord make sure to join the channel I made for our newly founded community https://discord.gg/J8pJ9ZU

Pleasure to meet you Panos and welcome! I'm most likely also rolling on the fresh realm, though with yesterdays news, I'll probably start out continuing my old toon on Nost PVP while waiting. Maybe see if any of my old guildys will return and convince them to roll on the fresh server ;)

And yes you're absolutely right about the upcoming community needs to stick together and keep communications alive - that's why I, at least for now, took the liberty to setup a discord channel here called ElysiumRP: https://discord.gg/J8pJ9ZU

Even though there is an official Elysium channel, with over 2K+ members, I feel it would be better to have our own little private space to discuss future plans and socialize in general. For now I think keeping this forum alive is crucial and exchanging thoughts like in this thread will (hopefully) make people interested in becoming part of the community.

I imagine some PvE players might come over as well even if RP scene was just beginning to take root over there on old Nostalrius PvE. I have this stereotype in my mind that most roleplayers don't particularly care for PvP realms.

I really hope this takes off :D what realm are you guys going to be playing on?

So far I'll be rolling on the fresh realm  but nothing is decided yet in my case. For me it really depends on what direction this up and coming RP community takes.

Honestly, I think I'm the definition of the stereotype you have in mind. While I do enjoy PVP from time to time, I'm much more into RP and PVE, hence why I exclusively played 6 years on a retail RP realm.

I really hope that all those who wants to roleplay, new and old, decides to roll on the same server.

What kind of Role-playing happened on Nostalrius?

Just curious since I played from day 1 and never really encountered any, but I did check out the role-playing sub-forum a few times and people were posting on a pretty regular basis there.

Was is mainly planned RP like for example dwarven mountaineers hanging out doing some event together, or was there a lot of spontaneous roleplay?

I guess I didn't venture out from the comfort of Ironforge often enough to experience it!

In my opinion it was a mix and it could be hard to come across out in the world. While I only played on Nostalrius (Alliance) for about 6 months, I did join a guild where we basically did spontaneous RP mixed with some planned IC dungeon/questing and some classic tavern RP or hangouts in different world areas. Sometimes we had players who'd be intrigued and join in on the fun but most of the time, if in heavily populated areas, you'd have a bunch of trolls trying to kill it for you - though, it never worked for them as we just pretended they didn't exist, hah!

There were also other guilds on the server, mainly raid, that had some dedicated roleplayers, who from time to time looked for contact on the /RP channel. It was quite active towards the end and you could always find someone who'd be down for some casual stuff or some spontaneous adventure.

Nost definitely had a small but solid group of RP'ers on the Alliance side of things. (At least in my experience).  I'd love to bring my main rp-toon back to life on a fresh server. I'm still in touch with some of those RPers and will be contacting them to urge them to pick up their swords and wands again.  The RP community here should definitely try to figure out which server we would like to focus our efforts on so we can get the most bang for our buck.  Maybe set up a vote at some point.

Hey guys! I've played WoW for a really long time now, always in Vanilla/TBC or WOTLK expansions but I never had the opportunity to join a RP community cause it's something I discovered just recently.

I'd really like to give it a try but 1) I've never done it, nor did I ever played D&D either :(. 2) I'm not a native English speaker and I feel like that will limit my roleplaying sooo much! Now I've read the "Getting started with Roleplaying" Post in this section and it helped me a bit but I wanted to ask you guys if you have any other tips, suggestions or anything that could help me improve in doing this.

As for the Realm, I was thinking of rolling both on the PVE and fresh realm, the main reason is that I'm sure I'll be switching between the 2 realms constantly, as I assume leveling on the fresh server will be frustrating as hell for someone like me who prefers chilling and taking things slowly but smoothly. I'll probably be alliance on the fresh realm and horde on the PVE but I'm not entirely sure yet.

Hey all. I'm getting stoked for the reopening of Nostalrius, and can't wait to see my old characters again.

I've never done much RP back on retail, but started in a more dedicated way just a year ago on Nostalrius PvP when I got invited to The Order, and got hooked instantly

Iam now looking for a guild when the server comes back up, unfortunately I started RPing before the release of the PvE server, so my main character, Tiade (Night elf Druid), is stuck on the PvP server, and I have understood that PvP servers are not a favorite place for RPers. Unless it would miraculously come up a migration option which I highly doubt.

Anyway, an idea I got just the other day, thinking now that I realized Nostalrius had many more RP-guilds that I was aware of (and someone already mentioned the poor lack of communication between guilds), as the Night Elf nerd I am, it would be cool to be part of/make a Night Elf guild, like sentinels or something that guards the elven lands and go on missions and whatnot?

I do hate the idea of excluding people from a guild, especially an RP guild for some reason, but if it was possible to widen the forum for guilds to socialize and keep contact, then different guilds would be able to parttake in eachothers events, and therefore, a full-on Night Elf guild wouldn't be impossible.

Although I'm fearing not many people are as huge elven nerds as myself, and maybe there would be too little interest to make it happen, but as stated earlier, name's Tiade and I'll be hanging around on the PvP server. Feel free to come see me at any time if there would be any interest in making such a guild. Or similar... Or any guild...

Okay, may your travels be safe.

Peace.

I served as an officer on the Council of Three for The Order, preceding the server shut down. Rest assured, we are here. And that tally, continues to grow. This merge will only serve us all for the better as it grows the community.
