Malagus 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2016 Hello everyone! This is my first ever post here and I am very excited about jumping into vanilla WOW again. Please forgive me if this question has been asked before.. I did search the forums and online to try to find this answer in advance. So, vanilla patches.... I played WOW in beta and then at launch and of course the game today is far different then it was then. But very quickly in WOWs life, they made some pretty major changes. Examples include: Meeting Stones (patch 1.3.0), First PvP Honor System (patch 1.4.0), Shard Bags (patch 1.9.0), etc... Some of these patches made the game a lot easier (to its detriment), while other features should have been included from the beginning in my opinion (linked AHs). Is there any way to know which features will be included with these servers? And if there are features that were introduced in post BC patches that are pretty good/well received (without compromising the integrity of the game), would any of those make it into the final server?
Ellipsea 36 Report post Posted November 22, 2016 On Nostalrius it was originally released around 1.4 content with slight modifications. You can see what was originally done here http://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1019 Which is not to say if there will be any changes to this philosophy now. Perhaps a GM would weigh in if anything has changed. : )
Ellipsea 36 Report post Posted November 22, 2016 (edited) Oh I misunderstood you, you want to know where it tops out. Originally, it was to go into TBC...all patches. They aren't saying they are going to do TBC now. This is what was stated at the beginning, before TBC was announced. The final timeline that went up to TBC is no longer available on Nostalrius server. Darkmoon Fair and Fishing Event will be available in the first 3 months. Kazzak and Azuregos will be available once Onyxia's head will be on a spike. Dire Maul will open 1 month after Molten Core & Onyxia Lair content is cleared. Regarding raids, Black Wing Lair will be available 2 months after Molten Core & Onyxia Lair content is cleared. ZulGurub and T0.5 quests will be available 1 month after Black Wing Lair content is cleared. Ahn Qiraj War Effort will be available 2 months after Black Wing Lair content is cleared. Dragons of Nightmare and Abyssal high council will be unlocked soon after Ahn Qiraj War Effort began. Ahn Qiraj Gate event will open the Ruins of Ahn Qiraj and the Temple of Ahn Qiraj. 2 months after Ahn Qiraj temple is cleared, the Scourge invasion will begin. 2 months after the beginning of the Scourge Invasion, Naxxramas will open with the outdoor PVP objectives (Silithus silithyst and Plaguelands Tower). Take all of it with a grain of salt, as there may be a different approach now, and also...we don't know if TBC is in the works. : ) Edited November 22, 2016 by Ellipsea
Shayss 43 Report post Posted November 22, 2016 I hope they do follow through with the way they had it on Nost, seemed really effective to me ; /
Malagus 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2016 Thanks for the info! For those on this forum who did play Nost, is the game-play the same as vanilla WOW or different slightly? I understand that they did reduce the draw distance because of the sheer amount of players but that is more of a mechanic to keep the servers stable. I was wondering if they added other things like dual-spec, increased flight-paths, etc.. Thanks!
Keftenk 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2016 Assuming Elysium will follow suite with what Nost laid before us, we'll start in 1.3 and end in 1.12.1. Nost was as pure-vanilla as you could get minus some integration issues such as AB coming out earlier than intended as well as technical issues such as talents. Other then that. No dual-spec since that's a WoTLK feature, no extra or added FP's since those didn't come til the pre-patch of TBC iirc, etc. They did create a dynamic spawn system for certain things due to population size, they fixed exploits such as ZG wall hopping, they deemed Hunter Tribute farming was abusive, as well as Bijuu farming in ZG so those were changed.

Sounds perfect! I know some regard these changes as "improvements" but I liked that it was more difficult and realistic. Re-speccing was probably the most irritating thing on my list but duel-spec wasn't a good fix... Made it far too easy. Regarding PvP... a lot of adjustments were made in those first dozen patches.... For instance, in patch 1.6, any items earned stay with you regardless of your current ranking. Also, in patch 1.12, cross realm battlegrounds were introduced... I imagine there will be no cross realm BGs because of 1: Only three servers and 2: Massive player population. So, can anyone comment on the state of PvP in either Elysium or Nost? Thanks!

No, they didn't change any game mechanics, with the exception of spawn rates - the spawn rate of mobs would change depending on how many people were online in that area. Otherwise everything was the same. They fixed some bugs and yes they reduced the draw distance massively (imo to a point where it made the game much worse) simply because they could not handle the population. The draw distance was a huge issue, I remember having to kill a bunch of mobs who all spawned within one pretty small square, but I kept having to run to each side of the square because you couldn't see more than half way across.
Hazar 3 Report post Posted November 23, 2016 (edited) Is there any way to know which features will be included with these servers? The Nostalrius PvP is on patch 1.8 The Nostalrius PvE is on patch 1.5 The Elysium PvP will start on patch 1.2 for reference http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Patches/1.x Edited November 23, 2016 by Hazar
Ourk 5 Report post Posted November 23, 2016 i find it very hard to believe that they would just stop after naxx progression. although they haven't stated this I'm almost certain they will do a BC realm in the future much like nost was going to. obviously the team wants to focus on vanilla but once vanilla stuff is all done.... i bet we will see BC progress starting.
