Hunter Stat weights

Recommended Posts

This is something I worked on for my hunter alt a long time ago, I wanted to know if an item was an upgrade without having to look up how high up it was in different "BiS" lists and so on. So I just calculated the different stat weights based on the information available to me and made an item comparison tool, all you have to do is put in the stats of the 2 items you want to compare and the tool will output how much ranged attack power each item is worth.

It also shows you which items are better in a raid environment and which items are better when soloing.

There's one for Survival since they get more out of agility than normal hunters.

It doesn't take Hit chance into account though. It's just a really simple tool to help you when gearing up in dungeons.

I think you should be able to input numbers and try it out here:

This is an example, comparing Brutality Blade with Fang of the Faceless:

As you can see, Fang of the Faceless is better for both specs while soling, but Brutality Blade is better for both specs when you are fully raid buffed, the difference is bigger in a raid environment if you are survival.

Oh I remember this from the nost forums. I've seen a lot of different stat weights calculations over the years, and each one had different results. I did the math myself one time and got something like 1 crit = 34 ap with decent raid gear and world buffs. It was a long time ago and I really don't know if I made some stupid mistake at some point.

Just like BiS lists, no one should take that as gospel, unless if you don't care to do the math yourself, since stat weights changes a little bit with gear/buffs/consumables.

You're exactly right, there might be some holy grail of the perfect formula to calculate what gear is the best, but I haven't seen it.

This is not a perfect tool, but it's roughly correct,  as a helpful tool for people who are new to the hunter class it can be a good guideline for people who and don't want to post in guild chat asking which item is best every time they find something shiny.

Would love it if someone came up with something better and posted it!

I made a spreadsheet a while back that would take all stats into account and separate cells for consumables, then it would calculate your stats raid buffed and it would give you your white DPS and then your total DPS assuming a perfect rotation, i.e. one where you cast every spell each time it's ready. I even made a row where it shows full t1 DPS, which was a surprisingly big upgrade. It varied with gear, crit scaling better than AP, and it was ~30AP=~10agi=1% crit.
