How hard would it be to make this? ( mod for ShaguPlates)

Recommended Posts

I love this addon , the only thing it's missing is some form of debuff timers. I think(?) that something generic like this would / could work really well.   I don't know if this could interact with any name plate addon or if it would have to be made specific. I made a mock up picture to convey my idea.

Could this work / is it even possible with the 1.12 api? Maybe an XYZ slider so people can place the dots where they feel fit on the nameplate.

How's that possible Renew? Nameplates aren't named frames in vanilla. All you have is a name and a level.

All three wolves share the same name and 2 of them even have the same level. Not sure how you think you could distinguish between them.

Please send me a PM if you have "the ultimate idea" to workaround the missing GetUnitID in classic. :D

Cheers,

Shagu

ofc with the vanilla limitations xD

but basically i can add another frame on your debuff-frame on nameplates?

i think the topic is the countdown timers on the nameplate debuffs :)

If you want me to change something on the nameplates, to make it more easy for you to add your stuff, just tell me :)

The addon "enemyFrames" got the multi dotting to work , through character names. I don't know the tech know how but as long as the mobs have different names they wouldn't mess with each other's timers. The downsides to enemy frames was it didn't refresh the timer on a new dot application , and it didn't have the ability to create stand alone separate dot timers for my target .

Figured I'd ask you directly - is it possible to get HP numbers (estimates) on ShaguPlates? I'm not sure if the feature is in but I'm doing something wrong, or if it's not.

You can enable the HP values on the nameplates, but there is no MobHealth3 support so far. All you'll get is 100/100 if playing here.

Alright, I thought I was installing MH3 wrong or something, thanks!

That's because there's no combat log entry for when debuffs such as sw:p or warlock dots get refreshed. You can however manually refresh debuffs like Fireball, hamstring etc that do direct damage before applying a debuff

How does "Renews" dot timer addon refresh the dot timer on my target when I recast it? I can recast my dot at any duration and it starts it back at 24 seconds. It is some how doable , but I'm only "good" enough at lua to edit addons.

Thats because Bit's aurae has a hook on the cast functions :)

there are some limitation if you renew the debuffs through combatlog, for example enemyframes does not support rank of spells with different timers (fireball always 10 sec. etc)

thats because: if you dont cast that SWP yourself, you will always see the full timer and you will not have a refresh if the dot is reapplied (as in enemyframes)

nevertheless, enemyframes is the best option if you need timers on the nameplates atm :)

Thanks, I tried enemyframes and it's decent but it's really sloppy and the timers wont reset if I reapply a dot. I would have to maybe look into learning lua and using the hook cast functions.

I mean I mainly do the art end of addons, we shall see.

Sloppy in what way? Fair enough that dot timers aren't reset, can see that being important to locks and SPs.

Also, this server feels off as far as combat log events being triggered compared to old nost, for instance, I used to be able to track when a warlock used drain mana or when a shaman, hunter cast totems, traps not so anymore

Just visually some things don't line up and there is no way to adjust it unless I go into the lua,  It wont track dots ( for me) unless I added them in the lua. And the non resetting timers, I feel like I end up with alot of clutter ( The addon is good, I just don't need all the features it offers). I used the term sloppy becuase when I'm dotting things and I don't know what dots are about to expire I have to manually tab through everything to check their timers which ends up defeating the purpose of tracking them. I just end up clipping or missing ticks .If the mobs have the same names, the dots all expire at the same time when one of the mobs dies- this could be a limitation to vanilla/ tracking and just my ignorance.

TLDR: I'm kinda trying to use the addon for something it wasn't made for.

Since it lacks visual options it clashes with my Ui ( These I can add my self though so it's not a big deal )

It's still ten times better than anything I could make my self.

This is still very much a WIP but it's the direction I'm heading. I'm still working on the artwork and replacing all the default blizzard visuals, some stuff still clashes and doesn't feel complete. It would be nice to not need the timers on left which it seems we have really good alternatives now.

Slowly but surely~

Hi guys, I'm using a version of ShaguPlates with the debuffs enabled but they are just under the health bar so the casting bar overlaps it. Can anyone help me with which line to edit in the .LUA file to adjust the position of either the debuffs or the cast bar? The screen shot above my post is how I'd ideally like it to look.
