The spell-pushback on this server is completely overdone

Recommended Posts

One thing I've noticed as a caster is that if literally anyone is in your face you won't be able to get off a spellcast. Even warriors with 2Hers will most of the time render you completely helpless to cast even the quickest spells (mind blast, flash heal). The spell pushback in COMPLETELY overdone. I played vanilla, I remember still getting off spellcasts even with a rogue in your face.

I feel the problem is that the current system will always negatively pushback your cast, in retail, there was a limit. You couldn't start attacking a 2 second cast and push it all the way back to zero; on here you can. It completely gimps cast classes against instant cast classes. Even I as a priest  with shield, I can't even imagine being a warlock or a mage.

In retail there are diminishing returns, same as CCs. You can keep hitting that caster but eventually he's going to get off the cast. Here, that's not the case, I've had 75% spells pushed back to zero and it is absolutely infuriating.

I personally would reccomend cutting the pushback by half or adding a diminishing returns type system. Even world mobs can completely destroy any chance you have at casting with 1+ sec autos.

Another thing I've noticed, DOTs and other damage spells will pushback a cast. I know for a FACT that DOTs do not pushback, even in vanilla. It's happened in dungeons, battlegrounds, everywhere. Only physically initiating a damage spell, autoing/wanding, or purpose made instants (shocks) pushback spells. Getting a CoA on you does NOT constitute a pushback. A CoA ticking does NOT constitute a pushback.

Maybe it's just me but I feel that (especially being on a PVP server), the spell pushback is atrocious. You could get off casts in vanilla with 5 people on you with enough time, on here, good luck with that.

This needs to be balanced, as a caster I feel this is literally the biggest barrier in PVP right now. If you have a rogue in your face you can be 100-0ed in the span of a Flash Heal which is not a thing. And no I'm not talking because of the dmg or interupts, I'm talking about the pushback. Their damage is fine.

Diminishing returns or halved pushback would be far more blizz like. The current system is completely stacked against any class with focused casts or channels.

Idk, I played mage in vanilla and remember getting hit by mobs four times before an icebolt went off.

I think in retail a damage spell would push back the spell .5 seconds, but then it would be locked out for a second. This prevented chaining spells back to zero. On here there is no such mechanic. You can chain .5 into .5 into .5 and completely destroy a cast. The maximum a 1.5 sec cast should take to cast is 3 seconds (1-0.5+1-0.5+1 = 3 seconds). I've sat for almost 5 seconds casting a 1.5 second heal. That is ABSOLUTE bullshit, regardless of if I had 1 or 50 people on me. Not only do these problems gimp melee vs caster combat, it screws up caster vs caster combat when DoTs push back freaking casts. According to Wowwiki only these types cause spell pushback.

In general any melee attack (be it a normal or a special attack) or direct damage spell will cause interruption. Damage over Time spells and most channelled spells will not cause interruption. The only channeled spell which does is 16px-Spell_nature_starfall.png?version=5 [Arcane Missiles].

DoTs aren't causing spell pushback. I've had multiple poison DoTs on me before, didn't get any pushback from them.

I've had DoTs in multiple instances as well as battlegrounds cause pushback. Prime example, the ticking disease on the troggs at the begining of Gnomer. Dot causing puhsback.

You can clearly see the difference in casting times in this video in the first fight against the rogue.

Spell pushback was not limited to any number of hits in both vanilla and TBC, though I remember it was less of an issue once they actually fixed haste in an early BC patch to benefit casters and reduce GCD as well.

It's how it's suppose to function I'm afraid. It's broken and unfair, sure - but going to a private vanilla server asking for a QoL change they added two expansions down the line is a bit strange to me.

Except it was not like this in vanilla. Did you not see the video in the last post?

Can you refer exactly to what moment you are seeing this thing being performed? What you might be seeing could be for a whole lot of reasons, namely:

* attackers missing their swing on slow 2H weapons (saw he was dueling some pallies)
* Power Word: Shield preventing spell pushback
* Martyrdom talent causing Focused Casting to proc after a critical strike (this is the likely culprit)
* Unbreakable Will talent causing a full resist on a Stun, Fear or Silence

That would require any knowledge of the video of the class he linked

Looks like Focused Casting was the culprit.

My bad didn't look at his buffs until after I was rewatching it.

Never played a priest - should've kept my mouth shut! XD

Hahaha, it's alright mate!  OP made 3 threads about how he "remembers" things so far, now it's time to debunk the 30 yard range on Mind Flay.
