Professions for a Warlock wanting to do both PvP/PvE

Recommended Posts

So, as the title says, I'm going to level warlock and I want to do both PvP and PvE. I'll raid and do BGs. Should I pick Mining/Engineering or Tailoring/Gathering?

Thanks in advance!

Take engineering first, then after it's done at 300, dump mining for tailoring. Both is recommended for casters because of the bloodvine items. Engineering is the better first choice because it needs mining. Tailoring is easier to work later because you can horde cloth or come back to farm for it later.

What if I pick Tailoring + Mining? I put all the mining items in the bank and lvl Engineering when I hit lvl 60? thanks once again

Nothing stopping you from that route, mine is just more convenient. You can always get cloth, so you don't need to guess on the amount. If you don't get enough stones and ore, you'll end up having to buy it. But you could always just have a dif char mine it. These things are only concerns if you're limited to 1 char. If you simply leveled 2 chars, you could put mining on the 2nd one.

Engineering is not required for competitive PvP and bloodvine tailoring set won't exist for 8+ months. Pick profs that will help make money, you can easily switch to something else down the road once you're 60 with epic mount and gear/enchants.

Engineering is a must for PvP, and Tailoring is a must for PvE (due to Bloodvine, which might not exist on the new server yet so you can perhaps pick some gathering profession in the meantime).

Xashe is right. If you've ever seen any oldschool/nost PvP videos you'll notice they are constantly switching between reflection trinkets/using incapacitate grenades/ sap charges to break stealth.

Without these things you will be at a hearty disadvantage overall.

Eh people blow things like that or differences in talent builds way out of proportion, nothing new there. Engineer is great for PvP but it is not required even at the highest levels, now or in real vanilla.

The trouble with leveling Tailoring is that it competes with leveling First Aid. As a Warlock virtually all your cloth drops should be turning into bandages, since bandage + life-tap is much faster than eating and drinking.

Only depending on your concept of what "required" means. Can you get into premades without engineering? Sure. But all other things the same, in a fight between two similarly geared and skilled locks, the one with engineering toys will almost always win.

There are simply too many advantages conferred by engineering. You can root melee (net-o-matic), AoE stun groups of enemies (various bombs), silence casters (arcane bomb),  run faster for 20 sec per minute (rocket boots), etc. Warlocks exist to make life miserable for casters. But we struggle immensely against melee. The added benefit of a root/stun against rogues and warriors alone makes the profession worth it.

If you want to be competitive in PvP, your goal should be to give yourself every advantage available to you. Engineering is one such advantage, and in many fights, it can be the difference between life and death.

Having done this quite a few times i usually go with tailoring and skinning to level, skinning is good money and you will need tailoring for robe of the void.

Once you have robe of the void drop tailoring and take engineering, once you have engineering 300 grind blacksmithing for the fear immune trinket,
