gotmilk0112 10 Report post Posted January 8, 2017 (edited) Went to secure my alt's name and ended up leveling to 32 so far. Was wondering if Windfury on a slow 2h is better than fast 1h Flametongue + shield? For 1-29, I was using a dagger and Flametongue, and it worked out pretty well. Could get blue daggers really cheap on the AH. Windfury also seems to be working out, but I'm a bit frustrated at the RNG of the procs. Sometimes I go through an entire mob without getting a single proc, and then other times it procs 3 times on a single mob. Is Windfury limited by any PPM system, or is it truly "20% chance on hit", no matter what? Currently rocking a Windweaver Staff that I snagged for cheap off the AH, and I'm going to run SM Lib to get the Illusionary Rod, then Armory to get Ravager. If it makes any difference, I'm specced Resto (for the 3% hit talent) and as such, I'm only on the 2nd tier of Enhancement talents at the moment. (ghost wolf, and crit talent) I did do a bit of Googling and one person said that it all depends on what your best weapon is; that if your best weapon is a dagger, go with Flametongue, and if your best weapon is a slow 2h, go with Windfury. Does that sound about right? Edited January 8, 2017 by gotmilk0112
ValarMorghulis 2 Report post Posted January 10, 2017 For general soloplay questing it seems a fast dagger + FT + shield is pretty close to a 2h + WF overall. The former giving you more damage reduction (shield) at the expense of dmg. So it takes a bit longer to down the mobs, but you save more mana on healing (of which 2h WF needs more), which equals a bit less downtime. That obviously makes 2h WF superior for group play (such as dungeons) as the only thing that matters is your dmg output since you are not supposed to receive any dmg at all. Yet, I have to find a good 1 hander + shield and try it out for the midgame. Guess it might yield similar results but at the same time it feels the game offers more 2h options for shamans in general. Also, I don't know of any bugs or limits considering WF itself, I believe it is a plain 20% chance which, as you pointed out, makes you 2 shot some mobs and bore to death others with white attacks, but in the long run its just a buff anyways :)
gotmilk0112 10 Report post Posted January 10, 2017 Yeah, I did a bunch of testing with both, using a level 32 staff and level 34 dagger, and found the kill speed to be pretty similar overall. But with full Enhancement and 5/5 Flurry, 2h is much less obnoxious to play, as Windfury procs often give you a crit, leading to a nice Flurry proc. I managed to get my hands on a Ravager last night, so I guess I'll continue on with 2h for the time being.
Obeyboss 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2017 I'd prolly try best of both world. Imo for lvling the best you can get IS fast 2hander. Wf procs will occur more often due ti its not ppm proc base model, and fast 2hander and weaker but more often occuring wf procs will smooth out the rng. gogo morgaine's might and such.

Yxo 8068 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 (edited) You can do your WF things with one mob and use your STR totem and racial, it makes killing faster. And if you fight 2-3-4-5...n mobs - just swap to 1h and shield, adding Stoneskin and mana- or health-regen totem, waste your mana only to heal - it helps you not die. BTW, I like Frostbrand on fast 1h, additional slowing the enemy is good. And Rockbiter on 1h when you need tanking and your healer want to live.
