Seems that their database has been hacked one or more times considering the messages that spam throughout the day about changing your pw.

They've been reminding players to change their password for a long time now.

Putting a preventative measure in place does not mean something bad has happened. It's supposed to prevent bad things from happening in the first place.

You may not realize this, but changing your pw frequently does not do anything unless their account DB information is getting hacked. It does not make it any more secure.

Uhm so bad Hackerman hacks the DB on 15.01.17 and you change your PW on the 16.01.17, now when the bad Hackerman tries to access your account with your PW from the 15.01.17 which he hacked at any later date he will fail because you already have a new one.

Simple enough?

Changing your password frequently is a basic way to ensure that your account never gets compromised.

If Elysium's database was "leaked", don't you think we'd be seeing a mother fuckton of people posting that they were hacked?

Take off the tinfoil hat.

Except it literally does not help at all unless their DB is getting hacked. There's no tinfoil hat, it's just basic logic.

If this is the case then it sounds more like a server security issue than an individual player issue.

Yeah, there's no other possible reason. Obviously.

If you're so absolutely sure that the database is "hacked", then why are you still here? Leave already.

So defensive. Do you have any real argument here against what i'm saying other than telling me to leave since you don't like what you're hearing?

IMO the volume of accounts being hacked is more indicative of some form of brute force attack on the log-in server than it is of a wholesale leak of the database. If the DB had been wholesale leaked they would have gone after the players with thousands of gold.

Also, those who fall victim to a hack seem to fall into different categories, All toons on the account were stripped, only 1 toon, all gold but no gear taken, all gear vendored. This leads me to believe its multiple different groups of hackers (ima go head and guess one for each gold selling website) that are trying to access accounts to fund their gold sellings ways (lets be real, they cant be farming the gold, those websites must be obtaining it through hacks).

SO if there was a wholesale leak of the DB why are these hackers going after the L34 guy with 15 gold and vendoring his gear for another 10? Why not go after that 1 or 2 people will 20K gold? Because there was no leaked DB.

TL:DR? If the DB was compromised they would have rolled forced password changes to everyone, the fact they havnt tells me it wasnt.

You have no valid argument. You're arguing on the pretense that your argument is true, and you're arguing as if there is no other possibility besides "db hack".

I've pointed out other possible reasons, but you continue to insist "db hack" is the only possibility. And yet you accuse me of "not liking what I'm hearing". :)

And since you're resorting to insults now, I'll introduce you to my ignore list.

Ignoring me wont change the fact that you're ignoring the point i'm making. Also, where did I resort to insults?

My argument is exactly what I had said before. Changing your pw frequently does not actually make your account more secure in any way unless the database is being breached and account information is being leaked. If this is the case, then the Elysium team should really make this information public instead of acting like nothing is happening. Otherwise, frequent messages to change your pw mean nothing as it would not actually have an effect on the security of your account.

@Worldstar is right, frequent pw changes do nothing

If you shared your account info, if your computer got keylogged sometime in the past...those are just a couple reasons I can think of right away, I'm sure there are more reasons.
