Is it even worth starting to play on Elysium?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I'm an average World of Warcraft fan from the UK.  I started playing in Cataclysm but have been drawn to Legacy Private servers to give that grindy challenge itch I've needed scratching since my RuneScape days.

I've been keeping up with the latest happenings in the Vanilla Private Server scene since the Nostalrius shutdown.  Shortly after which, I began to play on Kronos and made it to level 28, the highest level I'd ever been on a Vanilla realm.  However, when Elysium launched up with the initial backing of Nostalrius, it killed the popularity of Kronos and made playing there somewhat pointless.

And now, with the whole Legacy Realms dream up in the air, I don't know if it's worth the effort starting up another character on this new Private Server.  I could either have my progress halted and declared void by French lawyers, or I could end up playing on a dead server, if something better than Elysium pops up in the future.

I just want my progress to be secure, because for someone who didn't ever play in Vanilla, 1-60 is a videogame project of sorts, and is not to be taken lightly, especially when you have no nostalgic knowledge of efficient levelling tactics.

Anyone willing to share thoughts and maybe talk me into trying to level a toon on this server?

Having the server shut down for whatever reason is always a possibility. It's a risk ~40k people are currently taking though.

It's up to you and you alone if you think the risk is worth the fun.

Welcome I hope you enjoy your stay, now I have a few things to tell you:

1 - There will never be any legacy realms by blizzard if that's what you mean by "Legacy realms dream" I'm not being mean to you newcomer, but blizzard is to prideful to make legacy realms they already missed the dota train surely the same will happen with legacy.

2 - It is worth playing here do not worry about French lawyers if the rumours are true(most likely are) the servers are located in mother Russia so no need to worry.

3 - Elysium now carries the torch that Nostalrius once carried before they became blizzard's minions, so I'd guess that Elysium will not get smaller or die away, but in fact the contrary, it will get bigger.

4 - As a wrath baby, yes 1-60 in vanilla is not to be taken lightly it's an ordeal of sorts, but if you like to work hard for what you want then vanilla is for you.

According to this DNS tracer, the logon servers at least are located in France.  Given that I'm getting between 20-30ms latency from the UK, I'm convinced that the server must be located somewhere in Western Europe or Scandinavia, even Eastern European connections push my latency up to 80-100ms.

Thanks for the replies so far guys, I'm going to continually assess the comment you're making.  I do currently have a character and have been casually levelling him.  I'm sure once I find a guild, the social aspect will encourage me to keep playing.

Admins said that if they get legal threats from Blizz, they'll just pack up the server and move it to a different host outside of France.

Interesting, can you get me a quote maybe?  Would be great to have peace of mind.
