Chanecesd 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2017 I am slowly getting burnt out on Shadow at this point.. especially when I am just getting crushed by any UD player with or without a trinket. Frankly, the rotation is also pretty lame and not efficient even when shield/wanding. I need a fresh look. Is there an alternate way to level that is not too far less effective (Disc/Holy)? Maybe at 50? Any insight is appreciated, thanks.

If you have to fear someone to kill them, you're probably not doing enough DPS. Cast more Mind Blasts and wand. Power Word: Shield yourself on cooldown and just do as much DPS as possible. Even while leveling my priest (as Horde), I almost never encountered someone who didn't break out of my fear immediately. I began to focus more on killing the enemy instead of trying to survive. 2 hours ago, Daddecool said: Frankly, the rotation is also pretty lame and not efficient even when shield/wanding If it's not efficient, you're not doing it right. As for being lame, welcome to vanilla. Enjoy your 3 button rotation, at best. 2 hours ago, Daddecool said: Is there an alternate way to level that is not too far less effective (Disc/Holy)? No, there isn't. If you level as anything other than shadow, you are screwing yourself. There will be a plethora of people who will say "I leveled as disc/holy and it was fine," but they forget to mention that fine is slow as a snail. You won't have issues (because honestly, leveling is stupidly easy; it's just tedious), but your DPS will suck, your healing will hardly be any better, your survivability will be in the toilet, and your CC will be weakened. It is objectively worse. If you're getting bored of leveling, I recommend taking a break. Getting burned out might not be the result of the spec, but the general grind that is vanilla. Take some time away from Nostalrius/Elysium. Play another game for a few days. Give yourself time to want to play it again, then come back. Alternatively, level an alt. Perhaps priest simply isn't for you.
Chanecesd 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2017 Well appreciate the input! I think I just have ups and downs with it. I will try to wait till 60 to find out if its not quite for me as I don't want to assume just based off of 40 talents, etc.
Gardash 11 Report post Posted February 14, 2017 (edited) Do you have 5 points in Spirit Tap? Have you been stacking as much spirit as you can on all your gear? Your spec should look something like this at level 45 http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#bVZZxMgzctot Doing this will increase your mana regen massively and increase your leveling speed. Dispril 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2017 You want to have spirit tap if you want to do a lot of stuff solo while leveling, just to reduce the down time, but you you will be fine using a smite specc as well. You will however not be as strong in pvp though. Spiritual guidance and spirit tap has nice synergies for killing stuff fast.
pituitary 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2017 Hello fellow priests, i am getting closer to the end content (mid 50 at the moment) and got tired of the shadow 'leveling' spec. I will switch to disc/holy today and looking for a build i can keep for the whole pre-raid time. This is what I thought of: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#bVRhsV0oZbxxccbVx For the ones wondering why I spare 'Spirit Trap': I am leveling with two friends, what reduces my killing blows drastically and one of them is a mage so I get free water all the time. What do you think, are the 5 points on 'Mental Agility' worth spent? I strongly prefer 'Flash Heal' over 'Renew' and I know there are important instant spells, but ten percent aren't that much, aren't they? Would be great if someone could share his thoughts on my concerns or the build in general. Thank you very much.
Roxanne Flowers 15 Report post Posted February 21, 2017 Mental Agility will help you with the mana cost of Instant spells. Power Word: Fortitude Power Word: Shield Inner Fire Dispel Magic Fear Ward Elune's Grace Divine Spirit Power Infusion Renew Cure Disease / Abolish Disease Desperate Prayer Shadow Word: Pain Fade Psychic Scream Mind Soothe Devouring Plague Shadow Protection I'm probably missing a few spells from my cursory look at the AoWoW database, but you get the idea. If you're using a collection of these spells a lot (take your pick) then Mental Agility will reduce the mana cost of them. If you're not using them "enough" to put a serious dent into your mana pool, Mental Agility will fall into the Nice To Have™ rather than the NEED To HAVE category for you.
HolyPriest 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2017 (edited) @pituitary If you are mid 50's and quest/level with friends, then I see no reason to stick to a leveling build. I would go for a pure healing build already so you don't have to worry about respeccing at 60. So I'd go with this build: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#bxRhsV0oZbxtcs0Vx DISCIPLINE: Forget wand spec. 15% chance to resist Stun, Fear and Silence is great for both PvP and PvE. Imp PWS and PWF are no brainers. Whether you pick Silent Resolve or Martyrdom is up to you. Silent Resolve gives you a little more leeway with bad tanks but priests have Fade which you can precast. Yes, Fade takes you to negative threat if you're at 0 when you cast it. You can then freely heal the tank during the duration of Fade and by the it it ends, the tank should have built more than enough threat. Martyrdom is more of a PvP emergency talent - a crit can take a good chunk of your HP away so being able to cast a Greater Heal in peace is nice - in PvE you really shouldn't get hit at all. Meditation and Inner Focus are no brainers. Save IF for Prayer of Healing. Mental Agility, as Roxanne pointed out, is quite useful. 10% mana cost reduction that affects many of your spells is pretty good. Imp MB and IF are only useful in PvP. Cap the tree with DS. Remember that the more spirit you have, the better healer you are. That is, until you have stacked loads of +heal. I would fill this tree out first. HOLY: Healing Focus and Holy Spec are no brainers. You want more crits for Inspiration to proc and less pushback on healing spells in aoe damage situations or when the tank fucks up the pull is great. Remember that Martyrdom gives you pushback protection only after a critical hit on you while Healing Focus helps every time. Divine Fury and Inspiration are no brainers. You should pick Holy Nova - using R1 to flush out rogues and druids is great when they try to ambush you in BRM. Max rank is great for farming DM E and for those "oh shit" situations in dungeons. In raids, you hardly ever use, since PoH is generally better for Vael but it's only 1 point. Imp Healing is a no brainer. I put 1 point in Holy Reach because 1 point had to be spent and having slightly larger radius for HN and PH is more useful than tiny amount of damage increase for Smite and Holy Fire. Spiritual Guidance and Spiritual Healing are no brainers. With that build, you shouldn't have any problems healing content up to and including Blackwing Lair. Once you hit +600 heal, you can think about switching into a PI build. That amount of gearing will take time so you don't need to waste money on re-specs for a long time. pituitary 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2017 Thank you very much, @HolyPriest. I sticked to the specc you suggested (I applied some slight changes -> 'Searing Light' instead of 'Holy Nova' and 'Holy Reach'). Have been healing BRD and LBRS succesfully, will hit 60 soon and i think i will stay like this for a while.
