Warrior a good idea for first class back?

Recommended Posts

I love to tank, but my memory of Vanilla is hazy to say the least. My biggest concern is tanking instances while leveling. Would it be wiser to re-familiarize myself with the content on a DPS class before rolling a Warrior?

Also, are there any good series of WoW dungeon guides from a Warrior's perspective?

It's the worst "first class" to roll when not quite familiar with the content and just in general anyway, since it tends to be a class that sucks your gold out like a black hole. Repairs cost a lot and as the tank you die the most. Gear and skills cost a lot and you need them more than almost any other class. Tanking takes the most focus in groups and you generally speaking need to know where to go and what to pull etc. Leveling a warrior is also like changing the game difficulty to "hard" since at least until you get Piercing Howl from Fury you are extremely susceptible to dying if you get even one add while out questing. Your dps is also horrible compared to almost any other class until you really start to gear up at 60.

Often overlooked is also the fact that as a warrior you get absolutely no travel speed boosts whatsoever during the earlier levels and you're the most likely class to be totally broke at L40 and thus can't even buy the mount right away. Druid gets cat speed boost talent and travel form, shammy gets ghost wolf, hunter gets aspect of cheetah, mages can spam blink... Pala, lock also slowmode at first but at least get free mount at 40.

Roll a mage, hunter, druid (if you wanna occasionally tank) or something of the sort first and play it to 60. Maybe rogue if you like to pvp a lot.

Warriors are a pain to level but you will be fine tanking dungeons even as dps spec. Just make sure you have a decent 1H and shield in your bags as well as decent skill on your 1H. You will want to farm dungeons to update your 2H weapon whenever possible. You are at a disadvantage with the lack of experience in the content, but it won't stop you from tanking. Just do research on the content and you will be fine. The only thing you will have a hard time with as a tank is getting a raid spot, but it's not hard to get an OT spot if you join a guild when it's just starting and make sure that you are active. Just make sure that guild has leadership that knows what they are doing.

While most of the stuff said above me is true, it's still the most fun class to play in my opinion. True, it is a challenge but a fun challenge. At 60 its definitely the most rewarding class to play, be it fury or tank but more so as a tank. Gear will rain ontop of your head and you will have instant access to pretty much all content as a tank.

and to adress you concern regarding tanking when lvling. All you need to do is basically tab-sunder-tab-sunder and all dungeons from RFC up to BRD will be a cakewalk. At 60 content I'd recommend protection spec with shieldslam though.

EDIT: Spelling.
