Which server will you be playing on?

Will you play on the new server or the merged server?

  1. 1. Will you be playing on the fresh server or merged server?

    • I'll be playing my old Nostalrius character.
    • I'll be playing my Elysium character.
    • I'll be racing to 60 on the new server.

I'm really looking forward to playing on a new realm, with new infrastructure, together with lots of new players. I think the experience of it is very rare when you can actually join in excitement with lots of other people in a fresh start on a new server. I only hope that we have a large amount of people that feel the same. I was late joining Nostalrius, so my character never made it very far. Therefore, I'm in a good position to choose my home.

Another question regarding the new servers and merged servers is, I read in the announcements about the character transfers, and I'm not entirely positive I understood the notion completely, but I hope that the admins will not allow character transfers to new servers, and I understand the process - you don't want huge traffic on any specific server, but please give us new players the chance to really take lead of a new server. Again, its apart of the rush and experience of becoming one of the first 60's.

I'm extremely excited to see the new update this Sunday. I hope all is well.

there already is a poll, http://www.strawpoll.me/11589399

with the characters and servers it seems like 3 new realms

-completely fresh realm where you can create a new character

-a realm with old nostalrius pvp database(old nost pvp chars coming back), elysium characters with progress saved last on 6.november, will merge in this realm

-a realm with old nostalrius pve database(old nost pve chars coming back)

First thing I will do is log in on my old PVE realm character and see how it goes population wise.

edit: nostalrius char that is

It's a hard choice :

- Nost PVP because it was the server with the most players (i have a lvl 20 rogue ... Yeah i started late)

- Fresh start if there is more player than Nost PVP (which would be unlikely)

what i liked about Nost PVP is that they were players in almost EVERY zone, something who can be found annoying and cool at the same time

Look at the Strawpoll : this is very worrisome for former Nost players who would prefer to resume on their older characters.

If the population level on the old nost pvp server isn't high enough due to the new server getting released at the same time and racking up all the new players this will kill off the former pvp nost server. As simple as that. Exactly like Kronos 2 did to Kronos 1. I know I may sound repetitive with my others posts, but I write this so others people will start to seriously think about it. the last thing I think we would like is to see the Nost PVP server to die due to a lack of population only caused by the release of that fresh server...

That current poll isnt representative. The strawpoll is much more representative and is very worrisome for the former nost players as well as for those whojoined Krosnos 2 after Nost shut down and who aren't willing to resume back on Nost servers because they prefer the progression they did there.. If population crashed to a critical low level, this will kill all servers excluding that new fresh server (and maybe the pve nost server because it's the only pve server available on both project).

Again.. very worrisome.. let's see how it goes :-/

I'll be playing on the fresh start realm despite owning a Nost character. A chance to start again where the entire realm has been rebooted? That's actually really appealing to me lol.

The pool is poorly done. Playing your old Nost char and playing your Elysium char is exactly the same thing when it comes to which server you'll play on, since both databases will merge. Please rectify.

keep in mind that not everyone gives a rats попа about that poll or twitter and youtube i can sooner see people coming back to their hard work rather than going back to lvl 1 on a server thats gona have a messy launch, everyones gona react differently to that ugly launch thats gona happen some people might turn around and say screw waiting in the starting zone for 5 hours and make their way to the old pvp. i was gona start on the fresh server aswell but my gameplay will be obstructed by mass players clogging the server im not gona sit through that no way.

Fresh server is gonna be populated so expect queues until you give up.

You might be smarter off sticking to you old account if you have one.

No one knows what to expect. Honestly, I'm just looking forward to the community update on Sunday telling us that the servers will be up after Thanksgiving.

Just letting you know just incase you didn't know - the fresh start realm will be a PvP realm. I prefer a PvE realm as well, but over the past few years I'm starting to find PvE realms a tiny bit boring.

Usually I'm that guy who just likes to get on with his own business and leave the killing to the battlegrounds but there is a bit of a thrill with picking a fight with someone who totally doesn't deserve it every now and then xD

Know tha feeling, back in the days always used to play on PvE server since I had me friends there to.

But after the years past on and already the rarity of seeing the opposite side except if planned it is only a good thing.

And yes having to run for your life or just play with an horde is what makes the game! :)

PvP is PvE and a lot more, so its not a hard choice...

Many people from my guild and I will be (re-)rolling on the "old" PvP server once it launches.
We were already raiding there for a while and while some of us even might've been up for a fresh start, the majority just isn't willing to give up their characters as long as there is the possibility of continuing where we left off in April.

As for the population of the three servers - I think that all three will be fine.
Nostalrius did good before the shut down (population-wise) and many folks will probably come back to continue playing there again - be it on the fresh server or the old one. Besides that there will be quite a few new players that got wind of the server from the games media etc following the shut down of Nost.

I don't think that it's very likely that the old server will be empty after a few months as some people are fearing. Many people in guilds will go wherever their guildmates go, and it's just not very likely that a majority of people in a guild will want to give up their characters.

As for new players being drawn to a fresh server rather than the old one - once the fresh server has been up for a while (and has some active level 60s raiding etc) it will be just as appealing as the old server which should balance things out a little even if most people will try to get on the most populated server.

But that's just my two cents on the matter, we'll see how it all goes :)

Honestly, it will be interesting start on the fresh server, although the old servers are great to, personally I will go for the new one.

Starting off on a fresh server is seriously the best you can do when u do not own an Ely or Nos char. Progress along with new mates and don't fall behind those that achieved quite something (remember that only a rather small pool of people will be able to be boosted through raid dungeons). I miss the old times, when you grinded Tyr's Hand in a group cause you missed gear to do it alone, did Strat speedruns, and of course: used items like the gnomish mind control cap. At a certain state of progress, such items are garbage (I knew as I led random BWL Raids as well as many BG's with well-geared, skilled players.. and we raped everything, lower geared ones did not stand a chance).

So -> gonna rush the new server of course!

Note some that have neither may not be looking forward to grinding MC/BWL for a year + though.   We rerolled on K1 and had many people in guild already BiS before AQ dropped and our guild cleared AQ in September.  "catch up" doesn't take as long as people think.  If you are new to Vanilla in general though, and havn't been in the private server doing the same couple of raids for 1+ year already, I would then agree with this statement.

I am not a fan of these threads as they have been everywhere on Nost/Elysium threads and usually turns into a couple of people pushing their agenda rather more than anything.

I am excited regardless of who else does what.   We all should be excited.    Even in BiS I loved doing 5 mans.  Did so many speed runs on Strat UD I got Exhaulted AD way back in October of last year.  Still gonna do them to maybe one day see that mount drop :)   Would fit my character name/lore pretty well.

For the Alliance!  For the Horde!   For the community!   For all the servers!

Tanker, you make me proud. You always have the most level headed, well thought out posts when counter debating posts. Don't mean that in a negative way, you just have a way with words haha

I will be playing Vanilla for the very first time along with playing on a Private Server for the very first time, as well.

With that having been said, I am the kind of person who likes to know that they are starting out at the same level and with the same resources as every one else. To this end, I will be starting a fresh Female Human Mage on a new server.

What I would like to know is whether this weekend's announcements will include a new fresh-start PvE server as I am only interested in PvE content. Or at least, I think I am. What concerns me however, is whether PvE realms have a high enough population for myself and other players to feel engaged in relation to seeing other player's while we play the game.

Perhaps, it would be better for me to roll on a PvP server due to PvP being historically more popular server's over PvE one's?

Any guidance on what decision I should make would be hugely appreciated, guys!

Cheers!

Syn

The game is called "World" of "War"craft. Got Battlegrounds of Warcraft

Myself, I am only concerned with PVE, however I ONLY play on PVP servers.

The feeling of adventure, danger, looking over your back, staying off the open roads when solo in contested areas, the companionship of another player of your faction (not just for killing a hard mob, or refusing to team up because you could solo it) just to stay alive at times.

The random done man hunt for that rogue(s) who have been tanking others.

Running towards that herb/node in the world and opposite faction is going for it, the fight for it (or in your case, sheep them /dance get your resources /spit and sheep again and go about your way).

^^^^ This makes the world feel alive and dangerous. Not stagnant NPCs and players who are yellow who you /wave to.

I think there is a misconception in the understanding of a PVP server. No one should mistakenly presume that everyone on a PVP realm is concerned about ganking and PVP. On the contrary, the PVP aspect is just a bonus to our life. My first character was on a PVPRP server called Lightninghoof back in 2005, a 13 months after Vanilla released. My main concern was leveling, but sometimes its was fun to engage in some PVP with other players in contested zones, e.g. STV or AH. It helped gauge your characters strength. I think everyone's end game goal is different, some want to raid and others want to PVP in battlegrounds, but most of us like to do both, and its really fun taking raid sets into PVP unlike retail WoW.

I think PVP realms are how World of Warcraft were meant to be played. I mean the penalty for death is not as severe as the old classic everquest PVP servers. At worst you'll be ganked, but if you're on the new server you'll most likely be on an equal playing field with your enemy. You can always avoid highly contested areas or group with others in the zone to negate being singled out by someone.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to the economic approach. I'm want to race to 60, so I'll be avoiding all PVP as much as possible. I'll also be avoiding the AH - I'll create a mule that I can send all my auction items to. I want to hit 60 within the first week of the new server if the launch is stable. I'll then have a grace period of farming before everyone catches up. I can then be squared away to do endgame dungeons and the entry stages of raiding and character development.

I missed Nostalrius, and I intend to pull out all the stops on this server. If this is everything I think its going to be. I think this is the last chance to relive a Vanilla start, from scratch, day one. I'm ваууing excited and I'm taking it way to serious.
