Stress Test #1 Over! Reflections & What's Next

Recommended Posts

I did tracert logon.elysuim-project.org and got Ukranian ip address.

Projects of this magnitude are often clustered into multiple servers.

Your tracert only reveals their authentication server (but bodes well for the actual location of the game server).

Okay in response to most of the 6th page (at least above this post):

Seriously guys, one of you says your an idiot, another says the other is an idiot, and the cycle is endless. You both have unique experiences with servers and you are both correct for what you have been assuming in the past. But neither of those situations will 100% happen to Elysium, it will probably be a combination or whatever and you cannot know for sure.  So instead of arguing about a debate that none of us can know for sure (unless one of us is an actual prophet - which i doubt), how about we just put this all behind us and enjoy the server while it does last instead of worrying about how long it will last. If we just argue for three months, that's three months worth of arguments that we are taking away from the game itself, which if one of you is correct, is the only time we will have to play, and if the other is correct, it is still a good chunk of time that we have. So lets just all put it behind us, forgive each other, and enjoy the game together!

What's the matter, Ghaz?  Bites slowing down over on the official WoW forums?

Nobody who's passionate about vanilla is intimidated by the hydra losing another head.  Every server dies.  You read that bit by the Nost devs about making their code public after Elysium finishes capitalizing on the first dibs/gets pounded into the mulch by legal might?  It seems common practice to start copy pasting character databases, too.  Elysium got that.  Elysium's successor will get the same treatment.  There isn't much Blizzard can do to stop server "reincarnation".

You're looking at an endless game of legal whack-a-mole, with a nice little twist - the same mole comes up out of a different hole, good as new.  It can only be stopped by people losing interest in vanilla, which is something that hasn't even peaked yet.

Now imagine what it's going to be like when this community gets used to this sort of bend-like-the-willow legal kung fu.  When they get fast at it, and new servers start popping up in weeks instead of months.  This beast can't be killed.

Im not completely sure what is the point of this, i mean... you said you can hold 7,5k with this hardware, but lets be honest, it was completely unplayable there was a massive delay and a low distance with only 7k players only.

The point is to STRESS test... That means they are attempting to push the server until it DIES so they know all of it's limits and how it performs under all loads...

This time, the server crashed at 7,500, if they can get it working at 15,000 next time that means the server stability has improved... that means if the server is capable of running at 14,000+ without crashing, it will be quite stable and mostly lag free running at 7,500(what numbers will actually probably be under high-normal conditions after server launch).

any report on the latency from the stress tests would be highly inaccurate for the official realms, I'm from Australia though and i can confirm the stress tests latency was god awful. i had basically a constant 1k with spikes. the servers were obviously supposed to be pushed to the limit though so thats to be expected. when the official realms go live i think things will be dramatically different. it might be quite bad for the first 24hours or so but it will probably stabilize after that. i sincerely doubt there would be a constant 7.5k pop on the PvE realm :D

If you watch the Video of my Stress Test , you will see that i also had this huge pile of lag spikes during Stress Test and i am EU , doesn't matter on that if you are from Australia or not ;)

I wasn't able to make it to the first test, but I'll be sure to be there this Sunday! Let's see how well a 1080 runs the game. :) I already know the answer. Well, but how well? Haha  :happy_tired:

It will be great to increase drawing distance in WoW somehow. On maximum is not far enough

Why would blizz shut this down?

Until blizzard themselves make legacy servers they will not gain anything from shutting Nost/Elys down. And until they do they wont be hunting private servers and especially not this.

Yes they are aware of this project, they are well aware. The previous shutdown of Nost made it quite clear to them there is a big demand for legacy.

But you have to listen to what they say and they have never said anything about that they are against private servers. As long as the private server projects arent making money out of the game.

They have said they Love legacy but they dont know how they could make it happen at this point. The undertaking for them to implement this is too big to just "push a button".

And until they have made it clear of how they will handle it, Ion Hazzikostas himself said "we will have to let the nostalgia" handle it.

This project enables every party to get what they want. Blizz can calm and in their own pace decide how to handle their legacy. Meanwhile the screaming masses of the private server community get their server thus putting the lid on the rage.

Trust me, Blizzard dont want to anger their fans and should they shut this down it would be like putting out a fire with gasoline.

If you were talking about an older game than WoW, I would have said that it probably wouldn't run at all :D. It won't be much of a performance improvement since there is not much graphics to improve, though.

1080 sounds like an overkill for the game. Let's hope it won't actually kill it :)). Jokes aside, I'm not sure that the game supports 4k.

Your right, Blizzard aren't that bad, they do care for us. But there is 2 things that you are not accounting for, that if they were not there blizz would probably let us get away with it and nost wouldn't have been shut down, but as long as these 2 items remain, this server is at least somewhat in-danger of it happening.

1) Copyright laws: If Blizzard doesn't make any attempt (at least a C&D) then Blizzard's copyright over the wow franchise will actually weaken.

2) Activision: Blizzard merged with Activision a while ago, and since then that mass content>quality personality has had some pull on the blizzard franchises. So it very well could be the activision part of Blizzard-Activision doing this, because they probably think its even possible that it might reduce profits, then they will cut it off (speaking from how ive seen them control other games outside of blizz)

That does make a lot of sense. Then i'll just stay stuned and ready to hit it. I've longed for a fresh vanilla start for quite some time now.
