With this much-appreciated gift the devs at Nostalrius are giving back to all of us, let's make it a great community!! Let's make it a fun, friendly, respectful, helpful environment for everyone to enjoy this game we all love so much.  

 

I've read the forums created here about "free speech" which should NOT include toxic, nasty, hateful, racist, misogynistic or even political slurs.  Retail and many other games are cesspools of hatred toward their fellow players and it's a terrible environment. No one cares about swearing or what you say in party chat, but, as we all know, the hateful rhetoric from loser trolls on the internet is out of hand and should have no place in this new community.  Not only should it be reported, but offenders should be removed from groups and guilds to set a standard of decent behavior.

 

If you want to spew hate toward anyone, find another venue or go back to retail.  Let Elysium Project be everything it can be including a GREAT COMMUNITY!!

Honestly, don't even need words to develop strong animosity.  The really good, hardcore hate is developed by being out in the world on a massively populated server.  Guys that idly toss around boo-boo words on chat are amateurs.  Someone that constantly battles you every day for one goddamn plaguebloom node, earns a special kind of dislike : )

If those are your expectations, you're in for a ride. Yes, the public channels will be moderated but it's far away from 24/7. Best advice would be to grow a thicker skin and to "soft ignore" all the profanity while being in /world for example. You can't 'unmake' the internet. Pro-tip: avoid The Barrens if you're so feeble.

If you actually manage to get over it, you'll find it more bearable or even enjoyable. I'm not a vulgar type of guy but I have to admit that some of those chats got me laughing on many occasions.

I don't know if OP is expecting too much.  The pop on Nost was great.  It was.  Just that with so many people, some turds will be unnoticed for awhile.  Eventually they are taken care of and new turds emerge.  Bottom line is, the population was so vast, it was easy to stay amongst people whose company we enjoyed and easy to ignore the rest.  Civility was kept despite a few bad apples.  And like I said, the actually hard feelings were developed by being out there in the world, and that's pretty cool.

Oh, absolutely. Rereading my post now may be I implied the server chat will be barbaric and ever-throwing up curses. Only The Barrens is on that level. And yes, with a population that big it's inevitable to have that.

And Shayss may seem a bit mordant but he's on point almost all the time. People really should grow thicker skins and not being offended that easily.

At it's root, we sometimes make assumpions about the best way other people should spend their emotional involvement and measure it thus with our own emotions.  All things being equal, your time is best spent not dealing with your own dissastisfaction, we decide from our side of the divide.  We decide for you, your time is best spent rolling up the window and sticking your fingers in your ears.  Grow thicker skin.

 

In the currency of emotion there is no better way, there is nothing we can decide for someone else.  There is no greater collective that allows ugliness to be, just the individual parts; ourselves.

 

One's time is best spent as they see fit and their emotions associate themselves as they should.  

 

Say which you prefer.  Say what you will accept.  Say what is fine with you.  You cannot say to someone else what they should emotionally have for themselves.  Their thoughtful time is spent exactly as it should be.

 

What I feel?  I don't care about children in chat.  They don't touch me in the least.  I don't care.

Seriously, DECENT doesn't mean SJW. Calling a SJW everyone who is not willing to swim in goddamn toxic dump is just childish. Poor, weak and fat losers taking steam out in online games are not better than SJWs. Exaggeration is always bad. And for clarification: I deeply dislike SJWs

I believe that GMs will balance it nicely.
