Tholren 7 Report post Posted December 3, 2016 i always thought the nights were FARRR to bright in WoW -.- it was basically just day time with a slightly darker color overlay. so this would be a welcome change But I thought vanilla was perfect and we should maintain it exactly as it was and not change a single thing, visually, otherwise we're casual scrubs who came here directly from retail... I'm so confused...
Pottu 290 Report post Posted December 3, 2016 @Pottu, not to stir up drama (I use SweetFX a lot), but could you elloborate why this is in fact allowed? In the end it makes the game load a custom DX9 dll, that wraps it with API calls to the corresponding Reshade lib (x32/x64). To me that sounds like a free passage to hook the Reshade lib resulting in an undetected internal hack with various options like reading the game's memory, drawing an overlay over the game etc, because the actual DLL touching the game is tagged as clean, resulting in a free passage to an internal hack. Feel free to edit my post if it is something you'd rather discuss elsewhere. Everyday you learn something knew. I didn't know that it was possible to make it use something else than DirectX9.dll I'll get back to you.
Tholren 7 Report post Posted December 3, 2016 Goobye SweetFX?
Undertanker 88 Report post Posted December 3, 2016 (edited) Goobye SweetFX? Again I don't see why it would. Used it on 8 private servers, never had any issues and admins new a lot of run ran it. 8 servers worth of admins/devs and nobody has a problem with it, one 17 post end user drops a scare at Pottu, should blow over shortly. Athena 3 Report post Posted December 4, 2016 (edited) id suggest looking into that guys claim that it can result in an internal hack. if its even possible, then id be a strong advocate to shut down sweetfx aswell. I'm not convinced it is though without somehow effecting the other files and thus being detectable. Read for example this discussion about making the project open source, where the creator states he's afraid of what people will use it for instead: https://reshade.me/forum/general-discussion/217-open-source Thing is, he doesn't even need to make it open source for the scenario I was describing. Usually people just hook the threads of a game itself to have their own bit of code being run to do whatever they want their 'hack' to do. Now with Reshade already being ran in-process thanks to the custom DX9 lib (which calls the Reshade lib) you can just place your hooks in the Reshade lib instead, which already is being called by the renderthread (as that is where your shader replacements are coming from). Now my knowledge of anti-cheat in WoW, and even more so in the private server scene, is limited so I know little about what the team can detect, but I think it is fair to assume that they are currently not checking if nobody is messing around by playing hooks in the Reshade lib... I'm mostly wondering where the border is between "we allow XXX, but we don't allow XXX", as if I would ask about injection my own code into the client, I'm sure no dev would allow me to do so. Undertanker 88 Report post Posted December 4, 2016 You state little to no knowledge of anti-cheat but feel fine making the assumptions? Where is the line? Changing models, items creation/duplication, hit boxes, mobility. You are clearly upset about being told no to a prior request/inquiry and playing the roll of, if I can't have candy... nobody can.

Good luck finding a single post on the Internet of me requesting anything to be permitted... Let alone something retarded as new models. You seem to have zero knowledge about who I am and what my ambitions are. If you actually paid attention to my posts you would have seen that I endorse the usage of Reshade myself. In fact I know a lot about it, and a lot more than you as I was actively involved in making it supported for some games that I play next to (vanilla) WoW. Fact is, the library is dodgey if you actually know how it works instead of just modifying it's settings. Also, what's next? Had I claimed to know a lot about the anticheat you would call for me to banned cause I know stuff that only someone actively involved in "destroying" this game on purpose would know. @Cat, Im currently on my last day of a business trip. Next week I'll make a little proof of concept for you to proof my point... Edited December 4, 2016 by Athena
Undertanker 88 Report post Posted December 4, 2016 You seem to have zero knowledge about who I am and what my ambitions are. Dad? Anyways not trying to head hunt you. Just not sure why you are spinning your wheels on this one. Over 300 online competitive games allow the use of SweetFX. Between the engineers, developers, and various anti-cheat used across these games nobody at Valve, Rockstar, Capcom, Square-Enix, Blizzard, Sony, etc, have said no to using this Reshade program. Only CS:GO gives a prompt on logon that you are flagged for review, and they too don't ban people for using it.
Athena 3 Report post Posted December 4, 2016 (edited) All those games have thousands of both paid and free hacks available so... . The problem is that allowing custom dlls to be loaded without properly tracking those dlls only creates loopholes for people to abuse. If we're allowed to have the game load custom dx9 libraries then some model swapping to make say black lotus spawns render at the size of Ragnaros(...) is going to be redundant as I might as well make them visible through all objects, know that a group is camping the entrance to a dungeon around the corner etc. If they can track the loaded dlls server-side and verify their integrity then by all means we should be fine. One can still bypass such a system as you could overwrite the logic that would send such information to always flag your loaded libraries as approved, but that is going to be an issue regardless as you can always inject a custom dll and hide it accordingly. The problem to me seems to be that it is going to be difficult to identify legit players (with Reshade) from others that load whatever customized library one can come up with (in game radar showing enemies?). Swagkhalifa 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2017 I've installed this and I must say it sure looks pretty good! However whenever I launch WoW I get an error: Quote Exception Processing Message 0xc0000139 Parameters 0x7ffa8821d28 0x7ffa8821d28 0xc0000139 0x7ffac8821d28 Where my only option is to click "Ok" but then after that my game starts just fine and the SweetFx seems to be working somewhat as intended. When in-game everything looks enhanced except text such as text in chat, my friendlist, guild, macros, keybinds.. basically all text/letters looks kind of blurry and I wonder if it has something to do with the error i'm getting when starting the game. Like maybe something doesn't load up correctly? One last thing is, sometimes I get another error which will give me WoW Error as soon as I launch WoW, basically preventing me from starting the game until I restart my computer. However I might have found a solution for it just now, but in case it shows up again, I'll report it here. I don't remember exactly what it said but it was something about "The procedure entry point CreateDXGIFactory2 could not be located in..." I don't remember the last part. Anyway, is there a way to fix these things? Thanks in advance EDIT: The second error still occurs and it says: The procedure entry point CreateDXGIFactory2 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\d3d11.dll

Undertanker 88 Report post Posted April 10, 2017 I had to reinstall my nvidea driver, had off errors as well, but not when I first set this up. There was an update around December that made me go this route. OFC the drivers include the control panel, which is around 300mb.

Swagkhalifa 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2017 I realized having Anti-Aliasing on in SweetFx caused all text on my UI (chat, macros, keybinds etc) to be blurry and it also resulted in FPS drops, especially during combat in PvP or raids. So what I did was simply disabling AA in SweetFx and instead I turned on multisampling in WoW video setting (I've set it to x2 but I might set it to x4 or higher), and slightly lowering terrian view distance. Regarding the errors I had before, I fixed that by installing SweetFx 2.0 instead.

Tamanous 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2017 Yup. This and the advanced console graphics settings do indeed make a very obvious improvement to visuals on the game. A great place to test these settings is in Darkshire at night and also standing in the Inn around the fire. Very warm and cozy feeling and the outside night sky and town is amazing.
