Donating gold to friends, against the ToS?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a question regarding giving away gold and the ToS (yes, I have read them).

From the Nost days I have a lvl 60 character with quite some gold on it, that I will transfer to Elysium. Now with the relaunch I would like to start over with a new character and play with some friends that I've convinced over to vanilla. I would like to give us all a good start by handing out some gold to them (for mounts etc.), but I'm concerned over the previous ban-waves for gold trading we saw on Nostalrius.

These are my questions:

  • First off, is this allowed? When I read the ToS I don't see anything saying this behaviour is against the rules, because it is not traded for IRL cash or other IRL objects (I'm simply donating gold to my friends).
  • Secondly, if this is allowed, can I still be banned? Can my friends be banned? Why I ask this is because I, in my search for answers, found some threads on the Nost community stating that they had been banned for such behaviour (giving away gold/receiving gold for free).
  • Lastly, are there any specific proof I should save, that in the case of a ban would prove my innocence? From my point of view I guess the GMs would see that there is a specific group of people I have gifted gold, and that these people play together on a regular basis (but maybe that's not the case).

TL:DR - Can I donate gold to my friends or is it in conflict with the ToS?

Thanks!

BR

This isn't against the ToU.

Though is may flag your account for suspicious activity.  Upon review you should be fine.   At WORST you may get auto-banned and you post a ban appeal and they see your gold farming history isn't industrial like and you communicate with these players, it will quickly be un-banned.

Help your friends, it is what friends do.

You shouldn't get banned, giving money away for free in large quantities might raise a flag but like Undertanker said, they will see your not a bot or gold farmer.

Thanks Undertanker, always clear and fast responses! :)

EDIT: and you Stephen, thanks!

I did it this way, at one point.

I opened a ticket, asking to speak with a GM.

I was contacted, and I told him of my intention.

I screenshot the conversation - knowing I might need proof of my action, and making sure I had informed of my intend.

I never heard anything about it.   I was just making sure.    Better to be safe, than sorry, eh?

I did the same thing back on the Emerald Dream, this is by far the best way to deal with that.

I did this once and my banker got auto-banned. Had to appeal. (Nostalrius PvP has a auto scanner for suspicious transactions)

Anyone know how much you need to give away before they flag it? I was giving away quite a lot so people could get their mounts at one stage..

It's seems they may have adjusted the auto-scanner sensitivity. Many people auto banned late March reported trading as little as 80g to their alts.
