tisrel 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2016 hello, Community I was just curious what are the pro and con of a Feral tank? I do know it is not recommended to have one in the raid I was just curious why? Is it because of their threat or their mitigation? I was thinking about playing one has OT if it is viable enough.
Lorilay 12 Report post Posted December 16, 2016 Pro: higher threat potential (except maybe against Thunderfury) Con: greater total damage taken (due to lack of parry and shield block) Pro: higher HP pool and more mitigation per hit that connects due to armor Con: subject to crushing blows Con: can't break fear as easily as warriors Con: Nefarian will turn you into a cat tank (still doable, though) Pro: immune to charm CC (although this was not the case on most private servers, including Nost)
ravens 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2016 They can tank bosses but a warrior will be better and most guilds will have MTs but feral druids are great because they can OT/dps/heal. But it's certainly viable to OT stuff. Pros: -Lots of armor/hp and good threat -brings more damage than a prot warrior -can heal when needed Cons: -can't be def capped so it will be crit and be a burden on healer's mana -no real cooldowns besides frenzied regen Nef tank: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7h2lC-UnwA
taladril 43 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 Lorilay, what parts of charm cc are affecting bears when it shouldn't? The mobs that poly you normally didn't when I tanked them.
Mot 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 Cons: No Defense Cap No Defensive Cooldowns that matter No Parry No Block Not a warrior
Asherdoom 5 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 i would add one thing to CONS: leather in vanilla have no +def stats so you mst point in massing stamina to resist damage and armor. The con of this is you will take "spike damage" from bosses which cause healers to have heart attacks lol
Lorilay 12 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 (edited) Lorilay, what parts of charm cc are affecting bears when it shouldn't? The mobs that poly you normally didn't when I tanked them. Oops...I was confusing mind control with charm. It's still a pretty major bummer because your default actions when charmed are to shift to caster and cast hurricane, which leaves you super-OOM on Hakkar after 2 mind controls. Polymorph/Hex immunity is working correctly, which is good for tanking ZF and LBRS (and maybe Jin'do? I forget if he hexes his primary target or not). Wortgewandt 5 Report post Posted December 25, 2016 Rather than going tank go dps and grab 5/5 thick hide. Grab guardian staff and that's basically it. If your raid only needs a 3rd ot on 2/3 bosses out of 12, it's a dead slot otherwise.
mrcer 8 Report post Posted December 29, 2016 To add, feral tanks are great for off tanking. My guild will usually bring one to buff our highest performing melee dps. Although they are very gear dependant and advised to be played by an experienced player to minimise the cons and maximize their pros. More pros: tank that can dispel when they don't need to tank. An extra innervate and battle res. If you min/max your druid tank, their cons can be deluded by their extra utilities (crit buff/innervate/brez).
Undertanker 88 Report post Posted December 30, 2016 Yeah a feral should have 4 sets a loot with them in raid. Bear tank set, cat dps set, +MP5 set for decursive spamming fights, and a +healing set.
