What's the state of Alliance World PvP?

Recommended Posts

I'm interested in playing on the fresh server and one of the things I'll definitely want to do at max level is going to be World PvP events. I've played Horde all of my life and decided I would try playing Alliance this time for a change. I'm trying to judge how World PvP is currently on Nostalrius to get an idea on what it would likely be like on the Elysium server as well - and while I agree this is not at all accurate and there's always a chance that Elysium might turn out completely different, I am just worried I might not be playing into this faction with the right mindset.

I'm not making any solid judgments here and I would really like to be wrong on my presumptions, which is why I'd like to hear your opinions on this topic. With that in mind, I have two questions for you:

Question#1

Why is it that most Alliance players seem to prefer playing on the PvE server? On Nostalrius PvP, the ratios are generally balanced at around 48-52 A:H ratio, however Nostalrius PvE heavily favors the Alliance with a 60:40 A:H ratio on average.

Question#2

Most videos and montages on Youtube about World PvP on Nostalrius seem to be Horde sided. To add to that, the fresh server already has an experienced recruiting Horde guild entirely devoted to World PvP with no such counterpart for the Alliance as of yet. Do you think that's an actual reflection of how Alliance players treat World PvP in general?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

I've seen alliance run to aid people getting ganked in cities. I've yet to see alliance bother helping anyone in zones. Most seem too preoccupied with whatever it is they're doing; raiding, farming, questing, whatever. If it's out of their way, they likely won't help. If they run by you getting ganked, it's a coin toss. I've had alliance run by me getting corpse camped and requesting help. It's unfortunate that I chose a class and spec that is practically worthless in PvP.

This, for the most part, seems to be the way 60's treat it. I've seen lower levels engaging in it a lot more often, or at least helping others in the zone.

As for BG PvP, it's pretty active. Most Alliance that want PvP seem to spend most of their time there. Horde, on the other hand, is almost always found camping flight paths, dungeon entrances, what-have-you.

I can speak for myself, even though I'm not an experienced player, I'm gonna roll Alliance and try my best to PvP the shit out of the world.

This and the huge population are the main reasons I'm so hyped.

PS: as for the ratios on pve server, Ally racial bonuses are considered by many to be better for pve.

The reason that horde seems to have more activity as far as "world pvp" (camping hotspots with a raid ganking solo players) goes is that horde has longer bg ques and have to go out in the world in between them to maximize their honor gains.

It's always seemed to be Horde = PvP, Alliance = PvE in their mindsets in general. Ally have Paladins which give them the edge in PvE, hence the PvE server imbalance. Horde has better racials which gives them the edge in PvP, which is even more obvious on TBC servers where the ratio is like 8:2 Horde once they get paladins. We can all argue and nitpick about the validity of pally vs shaman, and each factions racials etc etc. But the hive mindset usually leads to what I just said, you're seeing it as well.

You never know. There are always all kinds of people within a faction. I run a WPvP guild and we often gank BRM/Menethil/Redridge/Goldshire/STV path to ZG/ Stormwind etc

It was once when i was 1v1ing in stormwind, and it was 2 ally 60s that just passed by like nothing happened, pfft.

However, we often ganked redridge to get some spicy world-PvP going, last time we executed hundreds of lowbies, it took them just 20 minutes to bring a 10-man raid of t2 geared defenders. We were about 12 people.

Fights happened all over the zone as we chased each other, both teams wiping at times. Ultimately after about one-and-a-half hour they overpowered us.

Overall it was fun, invading elwynn/westfall/redridge will get small defense raids against you, its good that some people care.

The reason why you don't see alliance guilds recruiting specifically for world PVP is because the alliance guilds that will focus on world pvp a lot do not set it out as something substantially different from their PVE objectives. To succeed in PVE you want to secure world objectives either way, so if you want to place your money on active world PVP you would have to join a more hardcore Alliance guild until a guild focused specifically on world pvp comes along.

I came to the aid of a fellow Alliance at the centaurs in Desolace. I paid with my life. Now, if the GY was going to be a 10 minute run to my corpse, I would judge my survivability and either fight it flee.

Hordes definitely have the edge in world pvp but that would also make it whole lot more fun when we alliance again take the crown in the lands wait for this wave of alliances to reach 60 and we will destroy the hordes since the hordes that have been leveling up have had protection their whole level phase and don't know how'd fight and we have been farmed for days without deleting our toons!

By reading the guild forum, i can tell that the ratio A:H will be alliance sided! Thus, having the BG longer for Alliance and shorter for Horde. wPvP is a coin toss.
