g2nightmare 4 Report post Posted December 31, 2016 Hello, There's an apparent huge issue with gold spammers / gold farmers / botting. After trying to play on the PvE server, I was getting a spam message every two minutes for a gold website. Installing the Spam Throttle addon didn't help since they have found techniques that work against it. A solution would involve a shadow ban technique, that popular websites such as Reddit use to combat bots. Shadow banning involves a 'secret mute' on a player. The player is unaware that they are muted, and their messages are not shown to other users. In a normal ban, the account / character would be deleted, remade with a new name, and then would continue as normal. With a shadow ban technique, the bot will be unaware that it is muted, and continue to attempt to spam messages unknowingly. A bot would not know that it was shadow banned or not. To add to insult to injury, shadow banned users should be able to communicate with shadow banned users. This would avoid gold spammers to verify if they are indeed shadow banned or not -- they would assume everything is normal and everyone is just ignoring them. 0 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

They have found ways around it by splitting msg's into multi msg sends. Can't go blocking WOW or G4 when that is all that is in a msg w/o screwing over normal chat. Asian American here. I spent my middle school-high school life in Asia playing MMOs from that region of the world. Want to know one of the biggest constants? Players selling gold to one another. Native Asians don't see an issue with gold buying/selling. THEY are the main market. American and European customers are just a little extra icing on the cake. Want to deal with the gold sellers? Get rid of their customers. There's no getting around it. Since they stole my account somehow, I'm going to make sure people realize the truth of the matter.
