Tauren or Night elf - Help

Recommended Posts

Currently, I am split between making a Tauren or night elf druid, no idea which one to take so would love some input on both races and why.

For a bonus, i would like some ideas regarding professions too. I will be rolling a Druid with the idea to tank, DPS or heal through leveling. For later I will be focusing on going feral or boom (I think). The time will tell, oh yeah I will be doing both World PVP, PVP, PVE, farming and of course raiding.

Best and kindest regards

PS: New to druid so tips and tricks are always welcome :)

@Moloko Thanks for your input, any ideas regarding professions? :)

@Undertanker Well yes you can look it like that as well, but I do not care which side I am, horde or alliance I don't mind either, just here to get tips and tricks, some arguments for which one to choose :) sorry if I made a misunderstanding

I'm by no means an expert, just my two cents.

Taurens are really nice because of warstomp, as was said above, they also have +5% HP bonus which is always welcome. Night elves however have improved prowl, which can either make you even more sneaky or allow you to spend less talents into improving your prowl and put them elsewhere instead. Also being able to shadowmeld while eating is a good bonus, helps you recover safely when you need to eat/drink.

So, overall, both races are good, pick whatever you like more.

As for professions, it's a bit tricky. Most people consider engineering the best for pvp, but is it still true for druids - I don't know. You can't use any devices/grenades while shapeshifted, so the usability of such things is very limited if you go feral. Same with alchemy's potions. So really, can't advice anything here, pick whatever you like.

@Oakenlix Wow greatly appreciates the help and very nice explaining it all. both races seem to be somewhat equal for what I could read around on both forums and comments, you been a big help thank you again. Oh, engineering yeah was actually thinking about going maybe 2 gatherer professions for gold, or maybe i should be picking up lw, bs or maybe enchanting hmmm.

@Undertanker Ahh you mean the smoking heart thing, ahh thank you for that, totally forgot about it :)

If you go Feral, blacksmithing for tank trinket.

The tanking trinket is Enchanting, although it doesn't require it to equip, so you can drop if after you make it. Blacksmithing is for the pvp trinket that makes you immune to fear, which sadly does require Blacksmithing to equip.

@Lorilay Is the tanking trinket BoP? Are enchanting and blacksmithing worth leveling up over for example just picking skinning and herbalism for gold gathering?

Yes, it is bind on pickup. I usually level druids with enchanting and a gathering profession (herbalism or mining), and by turning extra cloth into tailored items to DE via a friend or an alt I wind up with the mats for 265 enchanting just from leveling. You lose out on a fair bit of gold by not vendoring quest rewards, but as a druid you get travel form, so getting a mount right at 40 isn't as much of a priority.

Once you make the trinket you can drop enchanting for something else if you want. It's not a particularly lucrative profession unless you pick up some raid patterns. Blacksmithing is extremely expensive to level up, so I'd suggest collecting the materials to do it well after you hit 60 and have purchased your mount, craftable gear, etc.

@Lorilay Thank you for pointing it out so nice for me, really helps me get going on the thinking as well, your plan seems really good to have enchanting while leveling up with a gathering profession I am currently thinking mining to keep the mats to maybe go into blacksmithing, but how important are those 2 items for a level 60 druid? the PvP one seems really good but how about the enchanting one?

Once you hit 60 and put enchanting all the way up there, do you usually reroll enchanting or keep it for good measure?

PS: If there is any tips and tricks you can give for a newcomer druid feel free to give any, even the smallest ones would be amazing for me. :) Thanks for your quick and very helpful answers! :D

Since druids are only one race per side, the real difference is alliance or horde. Yeah there are racial differences but who cares in the long run. If you want a more pvp focus then you should go horde because pvp people more often go horde. If you want more raiding focus go alliance. Or pick by aesthetics.

In my opinion, the tanking trinket is the best item to focus on. It's useful for pvp and pve, and it's relatively easy to get (you can solo the BRD boss who drops the pattern). If you want to focus on pvp, then I'd suggest dropping your professions after for blacksmithing and engineering. Just keep in mind that the materials to level both are something like 900 thorium bars.

In my case, I kept enchanting and leatherworking and have a few rare patterns that are useful to my guild. But I'm also gathering mining materials on an alt and plan on dropping both for engineering and blacksmithing for WSG shenanigans in the next few months.

@taladril Thank you very much for your input, looks like I am slightly towards alliance side atm since I feel like I will be doing more raiding than PvP.

@Lorilay Oh damn 900 thorium bars seems way over my league haha, I will be focusing on both PVP and PvE, but mostly PvE I suppose. So looks like I will be going enchanting and a gathering profession probably mining or herbalism might even go skinning on the fresh server since it's easy to level up.

You seem to have pretty good knowledge around the druid class, do you have any farming tips as in gold farming or tricks since druids have stealth if you feel like it's nothing you wanna share with the rest its cool. You can pm me or just leave it at that as well. Thanks again for your great input and help

Currently, I am going towards night elf druids, with enchanting and mining. Thank you all for your help, I might make an alt too depends on how much time i have.

Probably will be a mage for farming gold, I greatly appreciate all the help you all came with. If there are any tips regarding rotations for DPS, tank or healing then feel free to post em or contact me.

Best and kindest regards
