tywyn 2 Report post Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) I've been playing since the 23/12 and have not enjoyed gaming as much in years and years. No game has really satisfied me since I stopped playing WoW after WOTLK. The downtime today is totally necessary and the extra wait for Anathema to come back online has made me realise I'm addicted to this game AGAIN. At 46 and a gamer since 1981,no game has ever gripped me like WoW. Much appreciation and thanks to all who are making this WoW vanilla project possible. I'm more than prepared to pay Blizzard for legacy servers, but if they don't want to play ball, then I'm quite happy to play on these servers. Missed opportunites from Blizzard for sure. AprilRain 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2017 I'm 43 and also a gamer from the 80's - Manic Miner on the spectrum 48k was my my first game lol! Played wow since 4 months after release, each addon makes me hate the game a bit more, I am one of the few that hate legion, the level to your area stuff breaks the game for me and I hate it with a passion, in vanilla I would explore and enjoyed the challenge of sneaking to area's that were to high for my level. The wow I loved has died and has been slowly killed off by blizzard since wrath. So back to Vanilla and the challenge its really great being back in the game I really loved and it is very addictive indeed. I would love to give my money to blizzard for true vanilla but they don't want it so I thank Elysium for all their hard work and for building what looks like it is going to be a great community of like minded players.

Vangooch 3 Report post Posted January 17, 2017 Used to affect me quite a lot, when you have those late night raids and get to bed by 4 AM. Whatever I was dreaming of I used to see yellow exclamation marks over peoples heads. WoW addiction used to be ugly.

Yeah Manic Miner was one of the first games I ever played too, and there was intense competition in school to see who could complete it first, unfortunately it wasn't me. Well the addons can really get on your nerves at times, and I spent quite a few hours sorting them out a couple of weeks ago, but now I've got the interface just as i like it after much much messing about (apart from one or two missing addons from BC) Yes the WoW I loved died in WOTLK for me, but now after playing vanilla again the old feeling is back. I just love the random conversations, together with the depth of the game and the addictive gameplay. In all the years since WoW launched, there really hasn't been anything better imo. Taking all games into account and the overall package, I think WoW is probably the best game ever made to date. Blizzard sort your heads out as you're missing a massive trick here as we're quite prepared to pay.

Can't wait for those late night raids again when I get proper druid gear on my main. It's also towards building twinks for the PvP BG chars I'm going to roll and gear up soon.
AprilRain 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) The only pain, time consuming issues has been sorting my UI and addons out, really glad someone ported spartan UI back to vanilla Edited January 17, 2017 by AprilRain
tywyn 2 Report post Posted January 17, 2017 I've got some of those UI's downloaded amongst the addon files I downloaded, but have not tried tbh, but now I've got my UI just the way I like it I'm reluctant to mess about any more tbh as it can as you know, get quite annoying. It's all working nice now. The big difference for me as to when I played it the first time is that it's now on a 55" wall mounted TV and wireless keyboard/mouse, while sitting on the sofa, although I can still sit at a desk and monitor if I choose, but never ever do.
Voice 2 Report post Posted January 18, 2017 *tywyn I feel ya, 35 here and enjoying the game even more then back in beta. Had a upsie and gamed without sleeping like some kid the other day hehe It's really easy to find friends and mates to play with here, i just avoid people that don't have roleplay like names and everything is good fun from there. 19" compared to 34" ips g-sync 4 ms 100hz sure does add to the great experience.
gussman 1 Report post Posted January 18, 2017 I quit in WOTLK too. Just saying it brings back bad memories of uneventful times. Won't participate in Blizz's products as they are greedy devils, only out for themselves and capitalize only on casuals, as many games choose to do. I am sort of a casual myself but I play for the qualitative experience.

Played wow since launch, and now have 2/3 of my kids playing along side me, as well as a wife, who didn't understand my love for the game for the first 10 or so years. And yes...it's good to be back!

Drabus 3 Report post Posted January 18, 2017 Sounds like a similar story... 45 here. First computer was C-64 with the tape drive - and later the floppy disk. Played WoW since launch. Glad to be back.
smilingbob 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2017 Ha, I'm higher level boys - 50 here and a gamer dad as well. My wife and I played and raided up through Cata, quit at Pandaland and tried both WoD and Legion and hated them both. My 14yo boy is now playing with us here on Elysium, I had to really convince the better half to play Classic. Now she loves it. I'd also happily pay for a real progressive Blizzard realm without all the BS, just straight up old school Classic and then onto Burning Crusade, maybe up through Wrath. No QOL shit, no battlenet nonsense, no updated graphics. Old School.
Xom 8 Report post Posted January 18, 2017 First game was the MS DOS game Oil's Well and original Sim City/Sim Earth and the first Civilization. Though since my dad was a computer consultant and bought us the original NES, I lucked out on my upbring; dad would upgrade his computer and allow myself and my brother to use it so long as we learned how to Reformat and Reinstall Windows so we wouldn't be bothering him if we messed up the computer. I always loved playing games once in a while. I had 400 wins in Starcraft and only a few dozen losses. I played Goldeneye 64 obsessively to get all the codes, would play One Shot One Kill against 3 of my friends and win 9-1. And of course Ocarina of Time exploration and Rogue Squadron medals. I was really into games, but I always thought of it as a past-time, like cards or going camping. Once in a while. WoW took some time to really sink in for me, but when it did, it really got me. It was the first game where I could just log-in to a world where there were hundreds of other people running around. In my earlier years I had enjoyed chat rooms, so this was kind of great in that way to meet people. I have also always keenly researched things, I love history and I soon realized this translated really well to researching game mechanics, loot drops, dungeon maps, etc. Lots of things we take for granted now, I remember leveling my 2nd or 3rd alt and people were amazed how much I knew, even though I just felt it was natural. It felt great to be able to enter this world, basically inhabit this virtual world and meet people from all over the place. I really felt a sharp loss when X-server shit began. I held on through TBC, but most of my dearest friends and opponents had been forged in dungeons, or on the battlefield. It was difficult to truly experience WoW with other people when they all became vapor after the BG or dungeon finished. I was done with WoW before Wrath, though I did return for ICC. I bought a three month subscription but I only used a month of it. By then Gearscore and LFD had taken the small fraying bits of yarn and torn the entire thing asunder. Anyway, I just started rambling there, probably would have written a book had I not stopped.
