Figure out a solution for all the hacked accounts. Take a look at the help forum and see how many players were hacked and had gold and gear robbed from them. Telling us that account security is our responsibility is irrelevant because you guys are just as responsible for making sure our accounts are secure. The two step authentication isn't ensuring our accounts are secure, people are still getting hacked with it. Last night my brothers account was hacked and his gear and gold were taken. I only decided to level on this server to play with my brother and friends. How can anyone possibly enjoy playing on this server if they are eventually just going to be hacked and robbed of everything they have poured endless hours into?

It's not a joke, you are literally retarded for thinking that it's up to the user to not have the servers database leaked/broken into.

And they're not the first server to implement 2 way authentication, that shit has been ingrained in mangos for quite a while and has been used by dozens of servers. But two way authentication is worthless if your database is accessible to even a single person outside of your company.

2FA is not worthless. Even if you have my password in plain text, you could not log in to my account if I have 2FA. You have the first half only.

The database was broken into, aka people were allowed to change data.

In this case, 2FA is beyond worthless, even if the two way auth check for accounts is handled by another database, server or whatever (which it isn't), said person could just wipe your account data instead. Why bother jumping into someones account when you can just make a billion more?

Gold? Just plop that bitch in.

Equipment? Same as the above.

Okay... but why would a hacker remove anything from an account? Hacking an account lets you transfer items, making you a profit. Hacking the database, there's no profit in removing items, you just make yourself easier to track.

Douchebaggery and fucking over people (especially people that are popular) build both a reputation and increase fame.

One of the more popular reasons to hack or cheat is just to piss people off or create a reputation amongst a bunch of scriptkiddies, and creating a reputation is a good way of getting free advertisement and more customers.

The hackers sell all the equipment on whoever they hack's account and then send all the gold in that persons possession to themselves. Most likely to sell gold on the server for real cash. There is a lot of business in selling gold and characters on this server apparently.

I think you miss my point; that's transferring an item (in-game) from one character to another. If you had database access, you would create gold and equipment on your account directly without taking it from anywhere else. Deleting things from a database is just a dick move and more likely revenge than trolling.

And if that was done constantly wouldn't a Dev or a GM see that in the logs making it easier to see who is doing what? On top of that these hackers already done this and got their accounts banned because doing that is easy to track. And what about the motives of this hacker as well? Is it really to make money or to expose how easy it is for them to fuck with anybody's account?
