Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

Im playing Mage  for the first time and i have this one problem:

When im fighting 2 Mobs and i sheep Mob1 and then immediatly cast a fb at Mob2, the fb hits Mob1 eventhough i hadnt him in Target anymore.

Is this a common problem? How do i avoid it

Gamb,

A fix for this is also using a mouseover macro for sheep so you do not have to drop your main target. replace the rank X with current rank of polymorph. All you have to do is then just place your cursor over the non-targeted mob and it will cast the spell without dropping the target you want to damage. You may need to download the addon supermacro in order for the macro to work but you can test without.

Here is a link to that addon if doesn't work by itself.

https://github.com/ericraio/vanilla-wow-addons/tree/master/s/SuperMacro

/run c=CastSpellByName s="Polymorph(Rank X)" if UnitExists("mouseover") then TargetUnit("mouseover") c(s) TargetLastTarget() else c(s) end

Why not just switch targets while the first cast is going?

Cast sheep at target 1 -> immediately tab to target 2 -> cast frostbolt

shouldn't have any issues

Agreed. I'm not sure I see any problem here at all.

Maybe what you need in this situation is a stopcasting macro...while you are 1.5s into a Fireball spell on your main target, you tab to the healer, and use the following macro, bound to your favorite key, to counter his heal:

/run SpellStopCasting() CastSpellByName("Counterspell")

This will immediately terminate/cancel the Fireball spell and, since you already tabbed to switch targets, will cast CS on the healer.

More useful macros found on this post.

That any help?

is this happening consistently or randomly/rarely?

id try turning off all addons if its happens consistently and if that doesnt work getting another "copy of the client"...

also if you can post a video of this happening it'd be easier to figure out...

It happens everytime, even without any addons. I have the client where you just had to download the wow folder and could play immediately maybe that's the culprit?

i try to make a video today

i cant actually tell from the video if you target before or after you press frostbolt, but if it happens again when you delay the fb cast by lets say half a second then perhaps just try a new client... cant see any "weird addons" or anything unusual i can think off..

GL with this one

I can hear from the sound that you are clicking Frostbolt before you even switched targets. It's clearly a timing issue on your side.

Most people will:

  1. target mob 1
  2. click sheep
  3. whilte sheep is casting: target mob 2
  4. spam press frostbolt

This way you will always start casting right after the sheep cast ends on the proper target. The reason other people don't have this issue is because they use this way of switching targets (ie. switching targets before ending their previous cast).

Yes the fb was after the switch. I will try a new client today

It might save you some time to backup your current WoW folder, delete all files/folders inside of WDB and WTF folders (including config.wtf), disable every single addon (once WoW is loaded) and ensuring you run WoW.exe as admin (right-click WoW.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'). If that works, slowly build back your settings/addons to find the culprit.

Also, take into account Raeburn's suggestions.

Really hope you get to the bottom of this!

that's what you are supposed to do if you wanna do it properly. The way you do it on the video can give random results.

You can target the next mob as soon as you start casting with the first mob. Example: you cast polymorph on mob1; during the cast you tab target to mob2. Start casting as soon as your polymorph finishes and lands on mob1. You will already be targeting mob 2 and can start casting a fraction of a second before the cast goes off to start the next one with as little hesitation as possible. It only matters who you were targeting at the start of the cast. Who you are targeting when the cast lands will not dictate who the spell hits.

Interesting to hear that this is a client issue apparently. I have been having the same thing happen randomly. You target a CC target, begin casting sheep and while sheep is STILL CASTING you swap your target to the Skull and begin queuing a DD.

The DD flys off and breaks the sheep despite your target CLEARLY BEING the other target.

Whats funny is I have had it seemingly break LOS, sometimes the kill target is North and the Sheep target is south, resulting in me Frost Bolting through my stomach and out of my back towards the sheep even though I wasn't even facing it let alone targeting it.

I've had this happen with summons on my warlock.  I've see many times that the player I currently have selected doesn't get the summon but a player I clicked on 10 seconds ago got it instead.
