Leveling Hunter BM, weak in PvP?

Recommended Posts

Hello. It's second time I level with BM Hunter and again I miss melee classes. I'm here for some tips and advice what can be done more in this case. So, let's begin.

90% times when I get ganked (surprised attack) I die. No CC, no defensive abilities, ridiculous dead zone. Freezing Trap macro is just.. lol, everyone always make sure they stay few yards away from me while running and jumping around me, they still can attack me (melee range), my trap can't reach them and I can't shot or even escape because I'm slowed or any other shit. I don't even mention my trap is visible and it can be resisted even.
Even if I spam Wing Clip, Concussive Shot, Freezing Trap or Intimidation (stun from pet) it doesn't help because I'm slowed longer then the duration of my abilities mentioned above so I still can't even run away from Warrior or Rogue, but let's say I do, then Warrior 2nd charge and GG.

I know Hunter can be great in PvP, especially MM with Scatter Shot (BM maybe not the best but..) but in some situations, mostly when I attack first or when people don't focus me, then there are no problems. I even kited skull Rogue once, and killed him after long kite. But if he would have attacked me first - I would be dead. So.. completely no idea how to win PvP fight if I get attacked first. It's even more difficult for me, because I never start fights, I'm not ganking so they run towards me like you know.. making an impression they are not interested in fight, but when they get closer they attack me and it's GG in 90% situations. Hunter is like a paper for me, someone enters your dead zone, slow/stun you and you can only watch how he kills you, I feel like a target dummy lol.

I love that class in some situations but in some other it's so powerless.. Definitely will switch to MM at 60 but I'm curious what you guys think about BM PvP while leveling and how you see it.

Best tip I can give you, is ways stand on a freezing trap while leveling.  This will give you time to get to maximum range, then you can open with aim shot if you have it, followed by concussive.  They start to get close, scatter or intimidate.  It sounds like you know how to kite, which is 90% of the skill you need for world pvp leveling / surviving a gank.

If trap resists, then you have scatter or intimidate.  Wing clip and raptor strike can be cast at the same time, so macro it. As soon as you get out of the dead zone, hit him with concussive shot.

It sounds like you already know what to do tbh.

Edit:  If you're BM and a marks hunter attacks you, close the distance with intimidate, use your axe and stay on his back. He'll win a shootout, so don't have one if you can avoid it. This also works on many casters.

Your problem is that you don't know how to kite properly. Rogues and warriors are the two easiest classes for a hunter, especially in world pvp. If you can just get them into a trap, you win. Say a warrior charge you in battle stance and you feign death trap him. Now you run away with cheetah and keep a good distance all the time while your pet is harassing him as well as you run/auto shot/run etc. Same goes with rogue. Against rogues make sure to have serpent string so that they can't vanish. If rogues uses sprint to chase you just stun them with pet and keep running. As soon as they realize they can't get to you and turn around, you turn around as well and chase them. Easy as that.

I personally prefer BM in pvp as opposed to MM. Intimidation and bestial wrath are extremley strong abilities.

All I wrote was about that I can't trap them. So even if I know how to kite, I can't start doing it while being attacked first.

Concussive/Wing Clip/Intimidation are useless if I'm slowed (hamstring/poisons), because I can't escape anyway, Intimidation gives me only 3 sec, if I'm slowed I won't get out of death zone. Freezing Trap is the only way to escape but they run and jump around me in few yards range so there is no chance to get them into a trap. Most ppl are not that bad to stay on me and not move, they are prepared to avoid my trap and that's what they usually do.

Btw. I have no Aimed Shot, Scatter Shot and Bestial Wrath.

Serpent Sting is bad? I always use it on everyone, sometimes Viper on casters.

2 questions:

1. You wrote a good tip to go melee against MM hunter but how to recognize MM/BM before the fight?
2. I find pvp against hunters (mirror fight) most.. difficult or annoying. It's because of their pets. I can't chase other hunter cuz their pet sits on me and make me dazed and the other hunter can lose my pet easily with FD. Any tips?

When you hit level 30 you gain feign death. You make a macro that looks like this:

/cast Feign Death
/cast Freezing Trap
/script PetFollow();

Click it twice and you will trap anyone close to you "in combat".

Always use wing clip on warriors and rogues even if they slow you too. That way it makes it easier to trap. Besides, Wing Clip slows more than hamstring so you can just strafe away from warriors anyway. (at least R1)

If you see a warrior is about to charge you, place a trap beforehand.

Huh?

Vanish removes Hunter's Mark. It doesn't remove Serpent String. That's why you use it.

2. Against other hunters you either a) trap their pet or b) fear it. Then just spam all your damage abilities(don't clip auto shot though) and hope for the best. At higher levels I sometimes use viper sting instead of serpent.

I usually reserve Rapid Fire for hunter vs hunter fights. Nothing assures kill like overkill with massive DAKKA.

But yes, trapping/fearing pet works as an aside as well, also preferring viper sting or scorpid sting on hunter, depending how I feel.

BM are really IMBA !
Seriously, Target a prey, pet attack , wait (or run if the prey spot you) , watch HK  , spam /lol .
Tea bag , Fire camp on him , Ice Trap on him ,Salt on his face.
Tam him,skin him .

To be really serious,Hunt have to never be on melee , NEVER.

2 Big issue with hunt : Mage , Rogue
1 little Issue : Warrior .

For Mage,Stay far away from him (really far) just watch your pet do the job, don't come to put "just 1 dot to help pet"  .
For Rogue ,wing clip, and prey the sun.
For War , If you are not far away ,just stay in dead zone , enought close to don't let him charge you, enought far to don't let him skill you .

Conclusion : Stay FAR AWAY !!

Level 26-28  I made some level 40 became my prey ... And trust me,the don't come back asking something else , even If I camp, they run.
PS : I'm not a twink at all .

Warriors and rogues can be difficult to shake before you can drop freezing traps on their faces. After level 30, you should have little issue with getting away from them. If you don't have Scatter Shot, since you're Beast Mastery, try dropping your Freezing Trap after Intimidation. Not very good use of your stun if you plan on re-engaging after Freezing Trap, but if you're having THAT much trouble landing your trap, maybe using Intimidation will help you learn. Or account for lag, whatever your problem is.

Either way, you have to be aggressive while dropping your trap. Get right up in their face so they can't get out of it, and CC them somehow before dropping it. Scatter Shot and Wing Clip are good abilities to set up for a trap.

If you want a spec that has BM talents and is swell for PvP, try BM / MM with Scatter Shot and Intimidation. You won't have its full power until you're pretty high level, but you'll have something to work with. If you go straight to Scatter Shot or Intimidation, then start sinking points into the other tree, you'll have both abilities by level 51.

Also, Serpent Sting isn't bad to keep on a stealthie, especially in a team fight when your allies can't see your Hunter's Mark target, though you can. It helps to ensure they can't escape, but Hunter's Mark will typically do the job just fine.

Pick yourself up a PvP trinket.  Trinket rogue/warrior's slow + Intim stun them.  Once you've got a little range on them, Concussive kite them and they're yours.  If warrior Intercepts:  feign + freezing trap -> get range -> Concussive Shot kite while pet gobbles his ass.
