The base chance for your attack to miss the mob: If the difference between the mob's Defense Skill and your Weapon Skill is less than or equal to 10 then the formula for calculating your base miss chance against that mob is: 5% + (Defense Skill - Weapon Skill)*.1% If the difference between the mob's Defense Skill and your Weapon Skill is greater than 10, then the formula for calculating your base miss chance against that mob is: 6% + (Defense Skill - Weapon Skill - 10)*.4% The base chance for your attack to be a critical strike is: 5% - (Defense Skill - Weapon Skill)*0.04% The base chance for your attack to be dodged by the mob is: 5% + (Defense Skill - Weapon Skill)*.1% The base chance for your attack to be parried by the mob: If the difference between the mob's Defense Skill and your Weapon Skill is less than or equal to 10, your base parry rate is: 5% + (Defense Skill - Weapon Skill)*.1%. Exact figures are not known, but base parry rates of Boss mobs are estimated to be between 10-15%, and may vary from one Boss to the next. It's not so much that you "miss more" with faster weapons, since your chance to hit (all other factors being equal) will be the same either way. The difference is that faster weapons simply "roll the dice more often" in a given span of time, and when you roll more dice, the absolute number of failures will be higher (all else being equal) for the faster weapons than for the slower ones. My understanding is that the motivation for slower main hand weapons is the Big Numbers you can inflict on an alpha strike when using a slow weapon versus a fast one, in addition to pretty much all of your spells involving weapon strikes keying off your main hand weapon. For some spells, the relevant question to be asking is whether or not the damage buff of your spell(s) is going to be a "one and done" kind of thing or if it is going to be something that has a duration allowing you to get in multiple swings before the buff expires. Ultimately it all comes down to appreciating the ... granularity ... of what the different weapon speeds have to offer in synergy with your spells and buffs. By design, some will favor Big Hits™ that don't happen too quickly, while others favor "chucking dice" as fast as you can so as to proc certain effects the maximum number of times in the shortest possible duration. The only reason you used the 1.3 daggers before was to spam heroic strike on every attack, this is no longer possible and thus tanks now want to use a high dps one-hander instead. Holkan 13 Report post Posted January 26, 2017 (edited) Its not so much about them being slow as it is just using the highest possible dps weapon to generate the most rage since rage from damage taken was fixed to be calculated with armor. The speed is irrelevant a 2.70 speed with 60 dps will generate just as much rage as a 1.3 speed with 60 dps. The idea before was you got so much rage from damage taken you could queue heroic strike every 1.3 seconds out threating higher dps weapons now you can't do that outside of like vael or some really hard hitting boss. Windfury as fullretard says benefits more from a slower weapon as well. And your total amount of misses may be higher with a really fast weapon, but you aren't missing a higher % of your swings. If you do 100 swings with a dagger and miss 30 of your swings you missed 30 % of the time. If you swing 10 times and miss 3 times its still 30 % even though your total amount of swings is lower. As to the weapon skill information I haven't looked into so I can't comment. All i know is 40 % of your hits are glancing blows and glancing blows do 30 % less damage then a normal white hit. With 310 weapon skill you don't do 30 % less damage on those glancing blows though they still cannot crit if they are a glancing blow. Hope this helps. There isn't any pure tank gear that will give weapon skill, but you might want to consider using some pieces with weapon skill in low rage situations (OTing bosses with no cleave but you need secondary threat or tanking anything that hits like a wet noodle). As for the question about weapon skill, you will typically be 300 as a tank and the type of weapon you use does not have any effect on your chance to hit or rage generation from it (assuming no extra weapon skill from gear or talents that affect specific weapon types). That first swing on a slow weapon cloud give you enough for a shield slam at start if if crit, vs a fast weapon giving enough for a sunder only, still needing to wait for shield slam rage. On top of that, due to Crusader being dependent on the base weapon speed of your MH, you get much more % uptime on a Deathbringer than a Broodlorde Defender. It isn't just about base dps of the weapon slower means more crusader.
