Druid specs viability in vanilla

Recommended Posts

So which Druid spec you will end up in terms of needs in like raids/dungeons and for while leveling and respec for level 60?

According to my research at some forums and stuff its mostly the Resto spec because here in vanilla they say Druid Feral, Balance and tank spec is not yet viable as its kinda mediocre dps and tanking capability until TBC came out or so? Is it correct guys? Because I'm currently researching anyways which healing class i want to play so so far some say the rest of hybrid classes are gonna expected to be healers so they are Paladin, Shaman, Druid & Priest. Which of them would be good for a beginner healer to try learning healing class ? :D

Resto is pretty much the only Druid spec that is needed at 60. As you said it's the same for any class that can heal, that's what most people will want you to do.

I'm a 60 priest and I find healing on a priest more fun than with other healing classes I've tried. You have lots of healing spells for any situation while with the other healing classes your're mostly just spamming 1 or 2 spells. Priests are a good choice for a beginner because they are just very good healers but also a challenge to master due to learning how to use the right spells at the right time.

All the healing classes have their niche however and will be wanted at 60. Play whatever you think you'll enjoy the most.

You could always go feral/resto hybrid, for that PvP/dungeon combo. I have never respecced once in Vanilla and I play Feral Tank in Dungeons and Resto in Raids, I don't top the meters but i´m not far behind and I get the job done as a druid should, make sure that Top1 Healer has mana with Innervate and CR if needed obviously (for anybody). Noone has ever told me, hey dude respecc to full resto. That just isn't a thing.

Originally, the druid was designed as a support class: he should interpret different roles in the same dungeon, independently from the spec. You can see this idea in the peculiar healing spells (healing over time, meaning that you support healer and do dps and the same time) and the advantages and limits of the resurrection spell (which requires a reagent and it has 30 min of cd).

The community of players never understood this concept and play-style... and they relegated each class into the three roles model: Healer, tank and Dps. The consequence is that shamans, druids and paladins were often found somewhat inadequate. But in the original design, they were imagined to be hybrids and to be played as such, independently from the spec. Blizzard has a winning marketing strategy which consists in "listening" to the community rather than forcing their original ideas and you can clearly see this approach by login in retail wow today. So, by the advent of WOTLK, Blizzard said "ok, we'll design our content with your three roles model of tank- healer-dps", but in Vanilla you don't really have that... and the druid is a decent healer only with resto spec.

Best advice is to find a friendly guild where you can play hybrids as support classes.

Second best advice is to roll a priest and be a respected and appreciated healer.

I enjoy the game as feral tank/dps in raids/dungeons. There is nothing wrong about not being resto.

But resto is also a very cool spec with many facets. You can talent deep resto for Swiftmend, you can also focus on Regrowth and Rejuvenation HoTs. Or you spec Moonglow for the best Healing Touch efficency. Gear choices (Spirit vs MP/5 vs +heal vs ...) only amplify the complexity of druid resto.

You can try a hybrid spec for leveling and play around with the different aspects of the druid class. This way you can find out which playstyle you prefer. There is no reason to be pessimistic for the future: Every druid spec can do leveling, raids, dungeons and pvp. The game is 12 years old and people clear content on release date, all the prejudices about the druid class are time-withered.
